I am not saying to sign haslem, I am saying to trade for him.

I don't even think he is a FA in 2010.

I am saying basically what SIC is saying, that none of the big 3 are gonna want to play here and even Amare is a long shot and I don't want to overpay for one of the lame 2nd tier guys or sign a 31 year old Joe Johnson to a 5 year deal.

I say wait for 2011 and go after Melo as long as he isn't still very immature.

What's wrong with that?

What's with the aggression VC4P? its the festive season. I think its time for all to have some eggnog and sing some carol's in the true yule tide spirit.
Anyways I don't care who we get really. The one thing i wanna get is a ring.

In Rod I trust.

You don't pass on the best player in the NBA because he might not fit perfectly with what you already have. Plus both Harris and Lebron are elite on the fast break, so I don't buy for a second that they wouldn't fit together.

Which would u rather play for:
NJ or Det
NJ or MIA
NJ or PHO
NJ or CLE
NJ or NY
NJ or CHI

It would most likely be NJ for one year then NY.

Detroit? Rip is turning 31 in two months. Sheed is a shell of his former self and is already in his mid-thirties. AI would have to be let go for them to get under the cap. Prince turns 28 later this season. They have Stuckey and a bunch of indistinguishable youth. I wouldn't call that overly attractive to anyone, let alone 25 year-olds like Lenbron, Wade, Bosh, or Amare.

Beasley and Wade is attractive. So is Devin Harris and Brook Lopez, and whatever else is added between now and then. The Nets have 3 1st round picks and they are committed to player development.

Phoenix? Nash and Shaq are old already, and the entire team is floundering with their new coach.

The Cavs are interesting because they could become either the greatest team of all time or a lottery team depending on what happens that offseason. Amare will not set his ego aside to play with Lebron. Would the other players? Maybe Bosh would but I still doubt it. Guys that are that good want to be on great teams but they don't usually want to be sidekicks.

NY has Duhon(decent, nothing special), Lee(decent, soon to be expensive), and Gallinari. They owe a 1st to Utah this year or next.

Chicago has Rose and Deng. If they resign more young talent they can't afford a free agent in 2010.

This year and next is really about laying the groundwork and building to attract one of those big free agents. None of these franchises are far and away more attractive than the Nets. This doesn't mean the Nets are guaranteed to get one of the big FAs. It means that they aren't guaranteed not to.

There is nothing wrong with getting Melo, but it would be foolish to sacrifice a chance at the 2010 free agents. If the Nets can't snag one of the young stars that year, they could conceivably wait and go after Melo (or whoever) the next year. To rely on getting Melo in 11 would be as foolish as relying on Lebron in 10.

All we know right now is that the team will have money for a max contract in 2010. We still have two drafts (3 1st rounders) between now and then. Harris and Lopez are the only fixtures on the team IMO. The goal should be to make the team as attractive as possible for the year we have the money, by building through the draft, and trading for youth on the upswing.

BTW, it would probably be best for the Nets to miss the playoffs this year. Hopefully someone gets desperate for Carter.

I still think we need Brooklyn to sign anyone huge. It's hard to attract free agents with the team alone. The fact that we suck at home this season isn't helping.

I didnt say i will pass on LeBron. Of course i will take LeBron with open arms, damn, i would even share my girlfriend with him if that's all what it would take. And i probably won't do the same for Bosh and Amare. Obviously, im kinda sour-graping for the fact that LeBron most likely will end up with the Knicks, if he has to choose between the two. The Nets are living in the wrong house and if im LeBron and you ask me where im headin', it would be an easy answer and also if im LeBron i know i won't be able to have a hard time encouraging other players to come and play with me esp. in MSG. So the next move would be getting the bigtime PF's available. All teams have a shot on getting who they want, it just depends on who plays on that team and where the team is located. The management and personnel also plays a big part, sometimes players look for familiar coaches and upper management, maybe at least one of our coaches or Gm's are close with the FA stars, were involve in any teams, somewhat related or maybe it's somebody they hang out with. In LeBron's case, it's Jay-z but it's being sabotage by LeBrons' infatuation with NY.

We have our own opinion about different things and that is, actually, one of the reason why some coaches right now are getting fired. They play their own system and involved with picking the players they want on their team and hope that everything will run smoothly. We all have our own ways on how we think our team needs to be ran. Some people could be wrong of wanting LeBron and i, as well, could be wrong with not wanting LeBron if i have to choose between a bigtime PF and him. For example, maybe Mo Cheeks should've just ignored Brand and let him sign with the Warriors, maybe he would still be there coaching the Phillys. We all dont know what's going to happen, as much as i love LeBron, i still think a bigtime PF superstar will be our best option. The last time we had one, and he wasn't even in that level, we went to the Finals twice in a row and he was a big part of it.

BTW, the Cavs will never be the greatest team all time even if they sign LeBron again. He will never top off what the Celtics and the Lakers did.

Why would LeBron sign 1 year with us and go to NY the following year? I bet you will never do it even if you're you. Just sign with one team for the long haul, it saves time and less stressful and also for security just something happens.

TRUE

I still dont like the idea of the Nets not named after New Jersey but if that's what it would take to attract bigtime FA and more fans, then i'm all for it.

I feel if the building is being constructed, we could convince anyone not named Lebron to come here rather easily if he had faith in the other guys on our roster. The key is...actually starting to build the damn stadium lol!

Man. . . and this whole time on the Raps board I thought you were always joking around. My gosh. . .

Haha I think about that when I think about 2010 as well. I think Toronto fans would declare war with us.

Right now, still, if I had to make a list of guys I'd want in order, it'd be Lebron, Wade, Amare, Bosh. But honestly, it changes all the time. We have about a 19 months until this free agency period starts, Yi and Lopez become legit talents in their positions by then, we probably won't spend money on Bosh or Amare. I love Wade and Lebron is Lebron, but I'm not totally sure if we can land either of them. Hell if we land James Harden or Derozen in the draft, I may just say to acquire a 2nd tier guy, fill out the bench with quality vets with the cap space we got, and go with that.

Of course, my thoughts on this team change weekly.

Agreed, my thoughts on this team change a lot as well.
The thing is, Harden looks like a lock for a top 5 overall pick so it is gonna take a lot of Rod magic to get him and Derozen hasn't looked very good on the college level so far and truthfully I never liked the guy to begin with, but that part is just my opinion.
