Agreed. That is the weakness in the proposal - you need the Magic to be happy committing money to Lopez and Humphries and those players happy with the money and going to the Magic. I could see the Magic trying to involve another team or two to steer Humphries and Lopez elsewhere and get young talent + picks instead.

Yeah, they could very well do that, but it's not a major blow. It just means it expands to a 3 or 4-team deal and there isn't a single GM in the league with more experience at multi-team trades than Billy King.

The main thing is that because Dwight wants to play in Brooklyn and Brooklyn only, other teams won't be able to offer the amount of assets that the Nets are willing to offer. As an asset, Brook Lopez could garner a young promising player in return and a future-lottery protected first. Humphries is worth a decent role player and 2nd rd pick.

Either way, a young promising player, a good role player, and 2-3 first round picks is a good deal for an expiring (albeit star) player. If a 3rd or 4th team needs to be involved to get that, it can be done.

Nets can always buy picks with cash as well.

So who needs a PF??

So the Magic are accepting Lopez lol? I thought they hated him.

King has the most experience in multi-team deals in the league. He'll find a way.

Oh man, if this actually happens....

Might talk to Charlotte about being the 3rd team.

The Nets can also sign and trade Lopez to a one year deal worth close to Howard's salary if Magic do not want Lopez long term. The Magic can dump Hedo's contract to Nets while Nets sign and trade Humphries to another team for a TPE. The Nets might have to give 2 or 3 2nd round picks and cash to the team (Charlotte) for the TPE to Magic.

Deron/Kidd
Johnson/Taylor
Wallace/Turkoglu
Teletovic
Howard

Its a title contending team.

I just don't know if it can happen.

I'm not a salary cap expert but is it possible for the Nets to frontload Lopez's contract and still do a sign and trade for Howard?

Just want to be clear with the whole salary situation with Howard + JJ + Wallace, which apparently would be the only players under contract so far:

Howard - $19,261,200
JJ - $19,752,645
Wallace - $10M? I assume he will be between 8.5-9.5M the first year

Looks like $49M, so they will be under the cap, and can resign Wiliams to a MAX contract since he was a Net. So damn looks like they will be overnight contenders.

I'm tired of people saying the 1st round picks are worthless

Kendrick Perkins (27th overall) and Serge Ibaka (24th overall) anchor the front line of a perinnaial title contender

Some of Chicago's key role players were late 1st round and 2nd round picks (Gibson, Korver, Boozer)

The Spurs were the top seed in the West this year with only one lottery pick (Tim Duncan) on the entire roster

If you are getting 3 first round picks, then those are valuable assets in rebuilding an entire roster. Shut up, take the picks and do a good job of scouting, drafting and developing. They'll have a better chance of developing a deep roster like San Antonio and OKC did.

Isn't that where their GM come from anyway? The OKC/SA school of team building?

The thing that makes me confident right now is two folded:

1) The Magic GM rang King last night after thinking King was bluffing about Johnson and knew once the deal went through that down the road the best deal Orlando could get would likely not involve dumping contracts on Brooklyn and therefore leave the Magic stuck in limbo.

2) Howard is still pressing hard for a trade to Brooklyn and is telling everyone he will not re-sign for anyone apart from the Brooklyn Nets.

Now who will trade for Howard as a rental with 3 1st round picks, potentially taking on a bad contract, getting a 20ppg centre (who I would argue is the 3rd best in the NBA and will show it this season if healthy) and a good young wing player in Brooks.

Also the Magic cant start the season with Howard on the roster because he is the biggest anti tank since Gerald Wallace.

Lastly the Nets should be able to find a team in the western conference looking for a PF that would keep Howard in the East.

but what an epic way to inaugurate your new team in Brooklyn. That city is going to go bananas. Arena will be sold out before they finish the paint job.

Overnight, Brooklyn gets the 2nd best team in the East. I can't wait for my Heat to play them :) I want this deal to go through.

Truth. But I think that this team would fit a lot better than the Heat do, and they have nobody to match Dwight. As good as Lebron and D Wade are, basketball wise they aren't a perfect fit.
