Cops are not trained to fire at those running away from them unless they pose an immediate threat to the public. It is literally agains the law for them to do so. And yes, white people get killed by cops all the time too, but at drastically disproportionate rates for traffic stops and non violent crimes. White people dont get pulled over for a tail light and then get murdered for it.
it happens to black people at a drastically disproportionate rate. when white people are killed by cops, its typically warranted, or accidental. for blacks, a large portion of it is pure racism and hatred.
ok so him running back in the car, is there any way possible that can be an immediate threat? He might have a gun in there, maybe a weapon. What if he just drove off and hit a pedestrian then what? exactly. Or maybe he could of got in the car and hit reverse and ran those cops over. There is immediate threat to the public, I just gave u 3 instances that can happen and it can be more. Shut that theory down quick.
The law doesnt allow for those assumptions. it needs to be "a clear and imminent danger to the public". Like the dude pulled out a gun and is aiming it, or has a knife and is running at someone weilding it. Getting in a car to flee doesnt qualify unless you had reason to believe the guy was drunk.
The entire purpose of these laws is to avoid weapons being fired... not just for the safety of the person involved, by innocent bystanders.
there are alot of "could haves". bending over backwards. how about this. the cop could have no shot him, and apprehended him then or later in 1000 other ways that would of kept him alive, the cops safer and innoicent bystanders safer. lets not forget someone else was in the car, and when the dude was shot and killed it his body was pressed on the accelerator and it sped into another car. that could of kit and killed young kids crossing the street. its reckless and its illegal.
hell even the police chief came out and said she deserves her due process but he can tell from looking that she was in the wrong in every aspect
you guys seriously have some reading comprehension issues. I said from the very first post she deserves to be punished. But you stuck up stubborn posters here are trying to say that him fleeing was the right thing to do. You have no clue how the world works. You keep on thinking the world is a perfect place and cops "suppose to follow these rules" and "it's illegal" blah blah. We've seen this story time and time again. We know what to do and what not to do when being pulled over or detained etc. Be smart and act accordingly . I'm done arguing with u over this. Go ahead and run away when the cops pull u over, let me know how that works for u.
