We shouldn't have to, but I wouldn't be surprised if we would.
One of the issues I have with Marks is he's never as ruthless in trades as I think he could be. It's very strange to suspend a coach for a season, but not fire him.
To me, it suggests either one of two things:
1) BOS thinks Udoka is so good that in spite of the severity of the infraction they believe he committed against them, they simply cannot let him go, because no other candidate would be as good as him.
2) BOS is so beholden to retaining/maximizing asset value that they kept him around knowing at least one team would fire their coach and would be open to having Udoka. Rather than letting Udoka go for nothing, they can keep him around and flip him for an asset when the time comes.
WIth option 1, BOS would probably see Udoka as worth at least one 1st round pick.
With option 2, BOS would probably let him go for a 2nd round pick.
If Marks is genuinely interested in Udoka, he should try to pry him away for nothing and say "Hey, we're doing you a favor by taking his salary off the books, and you don't have to worry about a severance package or paying out the rest of his contract if you were going to fire him anyway." This might be too unrealistic/pro-Nets, so I'd be ok parting with a 2nd rounder. If we give up a 1st rounder, I'll be upset.
