Two different thoughts in two seperate parts of the post. One is if Love forces his way, the other is a general package getting a good player.

I guess King couldn't find another team to straight up bamboozle him this year in the same fashion that Portland did to him last year.

great, we get to make a late selection in one of the weakest drafts in the past 15 years. Taylor and Shengelia arent going to get any playing time. even if they have what it takes to get better ti wont happen here or get showcased here. That first round pick is pretty worthless, we would be wise to trade it for a future protected first rounder and a future second rounder if we can.
Also don't dismiss how valuable Hump now is to teams with the new lux tax kicking in. 1st round picks due to being on cheap contracts have real value and with us being willing to take on bad contracts to get the right player, we're one of the only teams not making cuts due to the tax.

We're in a very good position going forward.

Humps contract will be more valuable. the issue is next year their arent any good expiring bigs like smith/milsap to use his value on.

1st point is complete rubbish. Right now the mocks have someone like Dario Saric going around our pick currently and I know he is a huge talent with through the roof potential. To say a player picked from 20 onwards in the first round is worthless is a joke to me. This is turning out to be a very good draft from what I've seen with a hell of alot of depth to it, so having a later pick is actually good to me.

Also how do you know whatever new coach that we bring in won't play Taylor more or Toko turns into a legit player. So many factors that can change and become assets. Taylor could very well be our backup next season and see alot more minutes.

2nd point about Hump is 100% correct but the lux tax kicking in is going to have an impact on decisions teams make to make sure they don't go near it. Players are going to become available that people thought we're untouchable.

Right, and deron williams was trade for a hell of a lot more then hump+brooks+ picks.

The Jazz got:
Favors(the #3 pick that year)
A Lottery Pick (which also turned out to be a #3 pick)
A Second first round pick
Devin Harris
3 Million in cash

Thats an enormous package. TWO top 3 picks, a good replacement PG, and another first rounder. We have nowhere near that to offer. Love if traded next year will go for MUCH more then humps expiring, brooks, and non-lottery picks.

So it would need to be a team he would re-sign with and I'm not saying we'd get him at all but we'd have a chance at least. Love has a player option in his final year which he isn't taking, he's gone the year before that. It's not as outlandish as many people believe for Love to end up with us even though it would take quite a few things to go in our favor.

There is ZERO chance. like even if he demanded to go the nets we still would have no shot type chance. I mean, maybe in 2 years, in his walk year, we would have a shot, but next year, ZERO Point ZERO percent chance. they would easily deal him elswhere and get significantly more.

its an extremely weak draft. Just because there is good euro player that will fall somewhere in the 20's doesn't change that. the college talent in this draft is poor. the depth is poor as well. Also, just because the Saric kid is available doesn't mean they we will be the ones selecting him. and even if we DO draft him and he IS really good he would have to prove his value in the 3 months before the trade deadline... unlikely granted he isnt cracking the starting lineup and would be behind several players depth chart wise
Also how do you know whatever new coach that we bring in won't play Taylor more or Toko turns into a legit player. So many factors that can change and become assets. Taylor could very well be our backup next season and see alot more minutes.

Because our rotation is already mainly set with veterans, and we ahve too small a margin to work with to win and make the playoffs to give youngsters time. I can see mirza getting more minutes, but not the other two. i mean they might not get DNPs as often, but not enough minutes for them to be able to show in 3 months that they are A+ prospects teams woudl covet in a deal for a star

looking at the salaries on hoops hype for next year, that doesnt appear to be the case.... unless someone makes a huge signing in the summer and immedielty regrets it.

- We STILL have no backup SG
- We STILL have a logjam at PF
- We STILL have the worst defense of any playoff team
- We STILL dont have a 3 point specialist
- We STILL dont have any second round picks movign forward
- We STILL have little at backup wing, and an injury to wallace would leave us very bare

The Ben Gordon trade would have cured 2-3 of those issues, wouldnt require an asset, and we retain a large expiring. how do you not do that?

Crawford was had for a second rounder, we could have given them brooks and probably gotten 2 second rounders or maybe a second and a reserve SG/Wing.

I'm fine we didint get smith, we simply didnt have the assets. but nto filling any of our MAJOR areas of need, even with a minor deal is just a poor job. We are not getting out of the first round with this team.

Yet we are STILL 1 game back from the #2 seed in the East.

We weren't going to win a championship this year anyway. Next year Hump will definitely be moved for more than he could have been this season.

Uh... no.

The Knicks got a bargain on Carmelo because they had all the leverage. Carmelo was becoming a free agent. He indicated he wanted to go to NYC. The Knicks had the cap room to sign him. That resulted in the Nuggets being forced to deal him rather than lose him to NYK for nothing.

The Nets have no cap room in the foreseeable future. They have absolutely no leverage whatsoever. They will not get a star player for scraps if they have no leverage. The best they can get for Hump's expiring contract will be an overpaid veteran who has zero trade value. (i.e. if that veteran had positive trade value, then his team would've been able to trade him for more than just an expiring).

Look around the NBA. See how many overpaid players have long term contracts at $12 million salaries. The ones who are considered amnesty candidates. Those are precisely the kind of players the Nets can expect to receive in exchange for Humph next season. They're certainly not going to get a Carmelo out of Humph.

The only way the Nets can get a "star" player is if one of their young prospects develops into a legitimate asset. But then again... if MarShon or Teletovic become stars, why would the Nets even trade them away at all?

Hay guise, the guy iz tha rite. Stars never ever gets trades for teh multi amateur player selection day choices, the early age foreign basket shooters, plus ending monies contractual obligation dude man.

We are scrooged.

Hump's contract will become an asset in a few months. Might as well suck it up and wait, we'll be a one and done 1st rd team though. I can't see us beating anyone with the atrocious coaching and no PFs :banghead:

You can't see us beating any of the 6 other non-Miami teams we are either tied with or beating in the season series?

I can see us losing to Chicago, Atlanta, and Milwaukee.

God help us if we end up matched up against the Bulls and Rose is back. He will eat fat boy's lunch

This team is now what, 16 and 20 versus teams .500 and above?

This might not be aesthetically pleasing basketball, this team might not be a contender and this team might be streaky and inconsistent, but this team is a legit problem for anyone in the East aside from Miami and there isn't a team in the West aside from San Antonio that I think is that bad a match up for us either.

I don't love this team at all, but the hate has gotten irrational and stupid at this point.

Chicago with Rose does scare me some as well though.

But no one else in the East and although I think we'd ultimately lose in the Finals to the Thunder if we somehow got there, there isn't really a team outside San An that scares me there either.

Call me crazy.

Call me a homer.

That's how I see it as is though.

I'm fine with not making a move.

Ben Gordon isn't needed since we have a few guards that should/could get more playing time in Taylor, Watson, Bogans and Brooks.

Smith and Milsap were long shots from the beginning so no surprises there.

Humphries will be more valuable next year. Glad Billy didn't jump the gun like he did last year.
