Well two things you need to look at.. First of all, knicks management don't view gallo as a "average" player, and I bet other GM's around the league view him higher than Average.
Next, the knicks feel they are in a position of advantage, so why give up more than you have to?
Again, you are saying not to let gallo get in the way of getting melo, but it is just not gallo when you add him to the equation.. it is real simple.. itis about value... do this, show me proof that the nuggets want to do a deal, ,melo for gallo straight up and then your post makes sense.. otherwise you are just rambling... The knicks don't want to trade a toyota, an acura and cash for a lexus when they can just wait and buy the lexus in a few months... and it has nothing to do with a toyota or an acura individually standing in the way.. it is the package as a whole!!!
Well SAS did say if we were willing to part with Fields and Gallo this would have been done weeks ago (didn't he?), he may have even said any 2 including Chandler......now if that doesn't happen it'd be even worse.... I too would hold onto Gallo of those three, but not doing it now (supposedly) because we don't want to give up fields, come on now...... and perhaps i'm slighting Gallo a bit, he's probably above average, but he isn't a top guy to say the least... he'd fit in well as a guy behind Melo and Amare........ but to your reference, trading in the two okay cars to get Melo, the Mercedes, to be with the BMW Amare.... you do that... and we'd still have 1 of the 3 (gallo.fields.chandler)plus Felton... I don't think you can pass that up...... I know we have a certain amount of leverage, and maybe they'll prove they used it well if the nuggets cave to a deal without fields and gallo...... but the Knicks have to be realistic, we cant sit back and say Chandler AR Curry and a pick (not that we are.. ) and allow these Laker teams to come in and snag him for whoever.... we can hold out yes, but if Denver says okay to a deal surrounding Gallo - yea gota do it... Gallo and Fields - eh that'd be pushing it... but if they really wanted that, perhaps.. that would more depend on if there were any other teams that could snag him at the deadline that would be a threat to getting him in FA...
I know we have some leverage and aren't going to give the ship.. but we should be going after melo like we need him and truly do want him... not 'oh we happen to be in a circumstance where we can land him, and if Denver doesn't submit to our offer we'll sign him in FA' - even if that may be true... that just, isn't a risk worth taking in my book... getting Melo here would be huge, even if it means giving up Fields and Chandler.
