True but you also have to be able to attract talent especially if you aren't going to take time to develop the young talent. People complained about the talent of the bench but I doubt there was a lot of quality players lined up to come play for limited money on Thibs bench when playing on a good team in New York should have been a very attractive situation.
Our core may have also already peaked and I didn't want to just leave behind a graveyard of bodies like his Bulls teams.
Getting better bench players is a front office issue. They had to trade away the depth we had to get the starters.
I don't think limited money and playing for Thibs is a great selling point.
2 years ago they attracted DDV to play with the Nova guys for the full MLE maybe with the idea they may move on from IQ in his last year before restricted free agency. Last off-season they had less money in the taxpayer MLE available which they held to space to use for a month before just giving the money to Precious. They reportedly offered it to Tyus Jones and i'm sure they were looking at other guys also. No one accepted it.
Jones took the vet min to start for a worse team that has trending downwards instead taking more money in a bigger market for a team that was 1 win away from ECF missing multiple pieces and trending upwards. This year they will probably still have the same smaller taxpayer MLE available. I'm not sure why it would be more appealing this off-season especially after seeing how little Thibs used the bench.
