Leon Rose would quit if Dolan stepped in. He doesn't need this job.
There are 30 million reasons as to why Dolan didn't do this on a whim.
I personally think the front office saw enough from Thibodeau these past few seasons to come to the realization that it was time to move on.
Reporters and media outlets were always going to take the angle of Leon wanted Thibodeau to stay, but it was Dolan that said it was time for Thibodeau to go. When in actuality I think the events happened close to something like this:
- WWW and/or Leon go to Dolan to tell him they want to replace Thibodeau with another head coach
- Dolan probably says,"I just gave the guy a 3 year extension last offseason. I'm going to need more than that."
- Dolan then decides to go to the exit meetings to see if what WWW and/or Leon said aligns with what the players are saying about Thibodeau
- Players and front office align with their statements about Thibodeau
- Thibodeau is fired
