You can try but you're honestly gonna be used for leverage more than likely to get the Knicks to ante up.

I honestly think he may just be trying to get in on a deal routing him to NY, now or this summer. But all indications point to him being interested in a rental. So a NY offer has to trump a Houston one...at least for this season.

IMO the Knicks need to come with a realistic offer and present it immediately. Team is in a slide (L4 straight). Spite can become a factor.

Oh boy! That's what i've been rooting for all along. Denver spites Knicks/Melo and won't trade him here. Melo is forced to come as a FA. Wunderbar!!!! Get mean and surly Denver, c'mon boys!

That's because you are horrible at trades. BigUgly should be the nickname for any trade you think up.

We have all the leverage but you think it's a good idea to take on Harrington's contact AND give up Gallo AND Fields.

Nah.

No.

Negative.

buike (80% insured)
curry (expring)
gallo
2 first rounders (through donnie's alleged magic)
mozgov

for

melo
harrington

yes i know, everyone hates no sharington, myself included but if we dont want to give up two out of the gallo chandler fields pool i see no other way than taking on al's contract. Nuggets get huge financial savings with curry and buike's contracts and unloading al's 5 year deal and get upside players in gallo and mozgov and a wealth of picks (which i'd debating giving 2, maybe just 1 of them). I think mozgov will be a decent pro, but i think we overvalue him. you can sub out gallo for chandler, but i think it's important we keep fields, guy looks to be the ultimate role player. starting five would be

felts
fields
melo
chandler
stat

harrington sixth man. we can worry about defense in the offseason, i dont think we're going to be able to get a decent big man until we pull a melo deal cuz otherwise we're too scared of salaries and assets that would ruin our chances.

That's a BigUgly right there. :D

Word is Denver, furthermore, does now concede that negotiating more seriously with the Knicks is unavoidable, as our own Chris Sheridan has laid out, since New York is still the only team that Anthony is definitely willing to extend with.

It will be interesting to see what market Houston sets as the rental price.  I respect your GM so curious to see what he is willing to pony up because then he is taking the risk that he loses Melo for nothing this summer which is what Denver is trying to avoid.

Im not trying to attack here. But that is a real grimy, parasitic move by Morey. Melo does not want Houston, or their ugly red polyester uniforms. I guess Morey is not worried about establishing good relationships with other GM's. I hope if Houston gets involved just to extort assets from us, that we (Donnie) get the opportunity for payback for that lecherous move by Morey. To me that is just bad business. I cannot respect that kind of tactic at all. If they want him because they think the can get an extended Melo, then I can respect that.

It's not bad business. Our draft rights take a direct hit with Melo in Houston. Why wouldn't our GM do everything in his power to prevent that or get something out of it? That's his job.

As far as him not wanting to be there, that's how it is for all players until they hit free agency. That's when players get to leave. Melo may be using all of his clout to "act" as a free agent while he is under contract, but he isn't a free agent yet.

I don't have any links to show what Morey is offering Denver, if anything at all. There are tons of links saying the Rockets are willing to trade for Melo without an extension. All we can do is guess what may be offered but I doubt you see any link about it.

What in your opinion will be Houston's rental offer? And will it be better than a package of say Gallo, Walker, 1st rd pick (from Randolph trade), NY 2014 1st, and taking back a long contract like Harrington and/or Birdman?

Cause the reality is, whatever Houston offers, the first thing Denver will do is take that rental offer to Donnie Walsh and in better words, tell him to "beat this."

So really, the only way Houston gets Melo is if NY doesn't beat Houston's offer, or Denver refuses to trade him to NY out of spite. And I honestly don't see how a package of Hill/Buddinger/1st is better than Gallo/Walker/2 1sts. And even if you guys do offer more, Donnie may then just ante up and include Fields as well.

We suck, yet our records are close and our best player is out for the year? And we just beat y'all, again. So what does that say about NY?

I don't think a Houston offer can beat a full scale "extended Melo value" offer like you just listed. Do you think your GM will offer all of that? Opinions on it seem to vary in this thread (on what he will offer).

Half the team has the Melo cloud over the head. Our recent bad play coincided right when the Melo talks intensified. Chandler even fired his agent today. Ironically, each time you faced the Knicks it wasn't the same team that won 13 out of 14, beat the Spurs, Okla, the Suns THE FIRST time. We just lost to Sac and the Suns before we came to Houston. Just as the Nets beat Utah when Prov made his announcement. I expect the Knicks good play to resume once Melo is hopefully traded before the deadline...

There are those who want to gut the team for Melo, and those who feel he's overrated and not even worth it, but the majority feel that any deal for Melo that has us only giving up one of Gallo, Chandler, or Fields, is what we hope Donnie has put out there, even if it means taking on a bad contract like Harrington or Birdman, both of whom could still be rotation players for us.
