I think this was one of his actually cunning moves, he stalled the process to ensure his signature was on every check
So despite the fact that Biden did more stimulus than him and sent bigger checks to people, because Trump's name was on the first ones in big, bold letters, he gets the credit
People in general are just kinda easily swayed by cheap tricks.
He knew exactly what he was doing.
Trump is incompetent in many ways, but when it comes to scamming and conning people, he is a master at his craft.
I remember a long time ago, someone said that if you ask Donald Trump what time of day it is, he'll lie to you about it just to keep in practice.

Yep.
Shout out to the Black folks who are openly talking about leaning towards voting for Trump by the way, because "he" sent out those $1200 checks 4 years ago. Meanwhile this dude and the couch f*cker are saying we eat cats and dogs, and his new racist ass spokeswoman/community semen dumpster Laura Loomer saying that the White house is gonna smell like "Curry and Colla greens" if Kamala wins.
$1200 dollars.
the American Rescue Plan gave a larger stimulus check & a child tax credit.
Yep. A tax credit that the GOP let expire.
I've said it before, I'll say it again. I've been alive since Reagan. Joe Biden has been the most progressive President of my lifetime and it isn't even close. For a center right country like ours, that means a lot. No, he was not perfect and I wish he slapped the sh*t out of Bibi over Gaza (and that in itself is an oversimplified take on a conflict that predates his political career). But he actually did a lot of good for Americans. Not just those who voted for him.

DOT wrote:Luv those Knicks wrote:What's a subject you'd like to discuss. I personally think trans rights is interesting. It's complicated. There are sports issues, which are valid both pro and con. And hormones, especially before the age of 18 is a tricky subject. I don't come down hard on one side or the other, though I lean liberal on the topic, but I think it's interesting.
I don't think it's really that complicated
The people who study gender dysphoria for a living have a treatment that works, which includes hormone therapy before adulthood. I think we should listen to the experts
And for the sports issue, there simply isn't enough data to say. We need to study the effects of transitioning on athleticism, especially seeing if going through puberty before transitioning has distinct effects compared to people who begin transition before going through puberty
So let 'em play until there's sufficient evidence to say they shouldn't. Like, there's a young woman in China right now named Zhang Ziyu who's 7 feet tall and plays basketball. That's honestly a huge advantage for her, more than any other female basketball player yet it won't be seen as unfair for her to compete in the Olympics in 4 years. Functionally, would trans women be that much more of outliers? I don't think so, but like I said, we need more data before we can evaluate.
We're going off on a few subjects in this one, but I think it is complicated.
There are three key issues here, as I see it.
One: Should trans people be allowed to transition and legally change their sex, and I say, sure. Why not. But it raises a few issues, like the trans woman who wanted a beauty salon to wax her testicles (I love the term, her testicles, because, I just do), but they refused, so she sued them. (The salon won), or the trans woman who wanted to join a woman's only on-line forum, in that case, she won. It doesn't just stop at public bathrooms . . . this is a legal mess at the fringes, but I'm almost universally OK with sex transitioning myself. Not all sexes are crystal clear at birth anyway, so sex transitioning and intersex at birth really should be recognized.
Two: What about before the age of consent? Do parents have the right to veto, or should a 14 or 15 year old have the right to start taking hormones to transition? Often, this can make the transition smoother, but what happens if a kid starts the hormones before 18, then in their 20s, changes their mind? Should they always wait till they're 18 and past the age where they have full legal rights, or should it start sooner. This is a tricky one for me. I think Biden even put some limitations on before 18 hormone therapy and he was criticized by the trans community. Some of the more liberal nations in the UK have looked at restrictions on hormone therapy as well. The republicans, meanwhile, always taking the low bar, are using this for propaganda "They're going after your kids" Pro Trans activists are talking to your children in schools - crazy talk but believe me, I've met people who consider this an assault on their freedoms. Far right People are crazy.
And three, Sports. The two olympic boxers weren't even Trans. But they were high testosterone which gave them some male features. Give a lady testosterone and she looks more like a man. If this is a natural condition, that borders on the intersex spectrum and I'm not certain that should be legal in the olympics. Most independent boxing organizations said those two women were ineligible, but they were eligible in the olympics. These are woman, obviously. They have "V"s, they can probably even get pregnant, but higher testosterone is a competitive advantage and it's not just those two women and again, these women aren't even trans. But I think this is a complex issue with no easy solution. I thought the hate the two lady boxes got during and after the olympics was terrible, but I'm not convinced that they should have been allowed to compete.
Anyway, I'm not well studied on this, I've only glanced at it as a curiosity, but I do think it's a complex issue.
There was a young man who transitioned at a young age a while back, her (correct pronoun) school gave her trouble about using the girls bathroom so she transferred schools and her new school embraced her, even let her join the girls soccer team and I think that's fine. What if it was a competitive team which could have lead to a scholarship for some of the girls? It gets complicated. But casual sports - let them play. The other school should be told beforehand of course. If she's built like Iona Maher when she transitions, the other school has every right to say no, but keep it open and honest. Have a discussion about it. Certainly, stop hating it.
And look. I love Iona Maher. I love that she's breaking new grounds on what a woman should look like. I love that she's challenging haters and she's not high-T like Imane Khelif but she's built like a free safety and most women aren't. USA's first gold medal in Rugby. You go girl, but I digress.
Anyway, I'm 90%, maybe 95%-98% pro trans, but in sporting competitions, stuff where wining matters and can lead to trophies and scholarships, I'm less certain. I think there are valid reasons for objection and where is the solution to this? It's complicated. At least to my tiny brain.
like this issue, for example. At a compeition being matched up against a trans athlete can be unsettling and arguably even unfair and women are starting to withdraw from competitions over this and I don't think they're wrong. BJJ involved choke outs and submissions and certainly a careful discussion should be had on trans rights vs fair compeition and where lines should be drawn.
https://torontosun.com/news/world/fearful-female-jiu-jitsu-fighters-skip-event-over-transgender-athletes
This is not simple.
My not well thought out solution, create a trans olympics and trans competitions. Let them compete, but keep a boundary on women who can compete somewhat strict. I have no idea if that's right and I've not studied this, and it should be studied and discussed before it's made open for all. That's my 2-penny solution. That would probably piss off the repubs even more if we start having trans olympics and trans competitions, and it would raise trans awareness, so why not? Why not have a trans and intersex games?
60 minutes had a great segment about a trans-man. A woman, athlete and swimmer who transitioned into joining the boys swim team. Granted, that's different because she went from Championship female to end of the bench male, so there were no hurt feelings. Nobody cried "that's not fair"
But it's a great video and worth a watch.
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/60-minutes-harvard-transgender-swimmer-schuyler-bailar/
But I still think there are some complicated legal issues here and I hate how the republicans are handling this, but I disagree with you that it's simple.
I don't know anything about Zhang Ziyu. Like Iona Maher, it might just be a natural advantage. I think, DNA catches up pretty fast and as women play more sports, this kind of "freak advantage" will become more common. Basketball is a little different though. I could be wrong, but I don't think they check for high-T. And . . . without actually studing this, maybe I shouldn't be so opinionated on it.
Margo Dydek was 7'2 and she played in the WNBA. Only a one time allstar, but among the leaders in blocked shots.
Brittney Griner, looks kind of manish to me and 6'9, but sports is about freaks of nature in a sense. Lebron is kind of a freak of nature not in his size, but his combination of size and coordination. That's very unusual. The mail man is kind of a freak of nature.
I don't know if Brittney Griner is medically high-T, I've only seen it reported as "May have high-T", but that, in her case, in lady college basketball and the WNBA, that won't disqualify her from playing, so I don't know why the IBA came out and disqualified Imane Khelif but Brittney Griner's testosterone isn't officially reported. Maybe she's as high-T as Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-ting, maybe she's not, and I'm fine with not knowing. I don't have a problem with Brittney Griner playing in the WNBA. I think she probably improves the league, even if she's a 9 time allstar, but I think there are questions that aren't easily answered, and the IBA banned those two boxers that the olympics approved. That's not simple.
Anyway, and again, just my 2 cents and I've not given this any kind of research in any detail. I will say again, the way the republicans are handling this is all wrong and anyone who sends hate mail to Imane Khelif, come on. Not fair and not deserved. She's not even trans and she was born high-T, she didn't cheat. The IOC made a decision. I'm not sure they made the right decision, but these aren't easy decisions to make. There's no clear and simple dividing line to draw on where the competition becomes unfair. Most athletes have higher than normal testosterone anyway so "High-T" is certainly to an extent, an arbitrary decision.
