I would actually like to flip Parsons if we acquire him for more assets (picks). Parsons is going to require a larger payday and if we lose melo and truly retooling it wouldnt make sense not to lock him in big money.
So say the deal to the rockets is Lin, Asik, Parsons, and there 2014 1st rounder for Melo and Felton
I would then ship Tyson Chandler and Chandler Parson to Phoenix for all there 3 first rounders and a huge TPE.
That would leave phoenix with a really talented starting squad.
That would leave us with only 4 1st round picks in the 2014 draft.
Trade JR smith for a expiring deadweight contract
Sign both Aldrich and Murry to two year deals (second year unguaranteed)
Then we can tank for a top 2015 pick. Trade Asik at the deadline for a future pick/assets. Trade Lin if someone wants him for a future pick at the deadline.
That would leave us with the following roster heading into the 2015-16 season.
Iman Shumpert
Tim Hardaway Jr
Pablo Prigioni
phoenix 1st round pick #14
phoenix 1st round pick #18
phoenix 1st round pick #27
rockets 1st round pick #25
Our lottery (hopefully top 5 pick)
+(plus a huge TPE from phoenix)
+plus whatever you can get from Asik and Lin at the deadline
With a 2015-16 projected cap at around 66.5 million
That would leave us close to 50 million in cap space to sign FA's.
We could be totally rebuilt in 1 year if we have to lose Anthony in a S&T
Any Melo trade would happen after the draft, therefore, a deal involving 4 2014 #1's is unrealistic. However, the basis for a trade is there - Asik, Parsons and HOU's 2015 1st rd pick is a fair return for Melo but we would need their 2017 1st for eating Lin's deal. Parson's can be flipped to a team for either picks or rookie scale players. Example - Parsons to PHX for the Lakers 2015 pick (top 5 protected) and the rights to one of their 2014 draft picks.
Asik can also be traded to a playoff team for a 2015 or 2016 1st rd pick. 2016 might be more valuable since a 2015 first comes with a cap hold.
This takes the return on Melo in a trade to 5 first rd picks (rights to PHX 2014 1st, 2015 LAL 1st, 2016 pick (vis Asik trade), 2015 HOU, 2016 HOU).
Move Chandler in a separate trade for picks
Were in a great spot with Melo. We either get him for our price or help him get to where he wants to go in exchange for assets. We have some leverage here just keep Dolan on tour with the eagles.
But doesn't the report say that Parsons wont be included in a deal?
