I would make sure to secure the support of as many GOP senators as possible with whatever "House of Cards" tactics I needed to employ. I would start with Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski. I would analyze which senators could be pressured or purchased. Mitt Romney could be a possible target.
I would also try to stall things into November. There is also the potential to pick up another Senator as McCain's replacement takes office and looks to be a Dem. Those 4 votes are enough to prevent the appointment. If we pick up a bunch of senate seats in November and Trump loses, they will have an even better chance to block the nomination. The election is in 41 days and Congress is out of session for at least 11 of them. A proper nomination would take weeks so they don't need to come up with much.
If the GOP got their appointment I would immediately start strategizing on how to negate this move. Expanding the SC would be the logical option.
