OG seems to be able to play defense just fine.

He was complaining about Jokic getting like 30 free throws in a game or something. Probably not the best champion of the cause cuz his dynasty got away with illegal screens all the time.

It’s just that scoring is just insane right now and I’m not sure if it’s made the game more entertaining. The Wolves league best 109 defensive rating would be in the bottom 5 10 years ago. A lot of games have turned into track meets with a lot of outside shots. I find it really entertaining but a lot of my nfl loving coworkers don’t understand me being a big nba fan. They were shocked that I’d stay up late to watch Knicks vs lakers cuz it’s a regular season game. As if I don’t want to watch Lebron lose to the Knicks.

So if the inside the arc shot was worth 3, with the much higher percentage most players shoot from there would make it more valuable than an outside the arc shot that’s 4? Has someone done an article about this or did you figure this out on your own? I’d like to read more about it. things would have really have to get out of hand for the nba to change up the scoring like that.

I read it somewhere several years ago

But the gist of it is, imagine 2 people take 100 shots, one from exclusively inside the arc, the other from exclusively outside the arc

If it's 2s and 3s, then 34 3s gets you to 102 points, where 50 2s gets you to 100 points. Meaning in NBA terms, a guy who shoots 34% from 3 is slightly better than shooting 50% from 2, and all sorts of guys are able to shoot 34% from 3. You bump that number up to 40%, that gets you 40 out of 100 shots, or 120 points, the equivalent of 60 out of 100 shots, or 60% from 2. A 40% 3pt shooter is worth the same as a 60% 2pt shooter

For reference, among guys who qualify for rate stats this year, there are 49 players shooting 40% or better from 3. Only 19 who shoot 60% or better from 2, because it's easier to find a guy who can shoot 40% from 3 than it is to find a guy who can shoot 60% from 2. Shaq, arguably the most dominant paint scorer ever, only averaged 60% or more from 2 four times, all of which came after he turned 32 and started to take fewer shots

Now we apply that to 3s and 4s, say you have a 40% 4pt shooter, how valuable is that? Well, he'd score 40 out of 100 shots, so that's 160 points, divided by 3 you get 53.3%. So now a 40% shooter behind the arc is as valuable as a 53.3% shooter inside the arc. Going back to this year, remember there are 49 guys who shoot 40% from beyond the arc amongst qualified players and 19 who shoot 60% inside it, if we drop the inside the arc number down to 53.3%, that gets us to 72 players. Meaning at that point, it's easier to find a 53.3% inside scorer than a 40% outside scorer

So if you want things to go back to more inside scoring focused, that's how you do it. Granted, it's not so simple as it would fundamentally change the way the game is played, but that would solve the problem people seem to have. Also granted, it would inflate scoring numbers, but for all intents and purposes, they would be the type of basketball people say they want.

He didn’t start in the playoffs though. He played extremely limited annd sporadic minutes off the bench on a short leash because Thibs got scared and wouldn’t let him play through the struggles and wanted Brunson for 40+ mins a game. Then he got injured before he could redeem himself. I don’t think that was indicative of who he is!!!

People could laugh at the Lakers all they want, and call Lebron old, but if Adam Silver wants them in the finals he will pull all the strings necessary to have them there.

Thanks for the breakdown. I got the basic concept but the numbers really put it in perspective. I tried so hard to sort players lists by 2 pt% and I couldn’t find it but have to assume that most of those 19 above 60% are centers? It certainly would fix the one big complaint from casual fans about the 3 point shooting and inspire more inside the arc play.

I wonder if you devalued the outside shot that the efficiency of the inside shot would be hurt too? Players might close out softer and protect the paint more. There’s pretty much always going to be some sort of trade offs with some unintended consequences.

He couldn’t even dribble against a cavs defense that was locked in on him defensively!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Similarly To HaliFRAUD he puts up good numbers in the regular season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But when a team had a whole series to game plan for him he got exposed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That’s just facts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obi has quietly been having a solid season. 15/8/4 in 27 min yesterday against the Bucks in a win. Pacers are 19-14.

Lost his starting job, but his minutes have basically stayed the same at around 25 mpg. Still leading the league in 2P%. Cut down on his 3 point attempts a lot this year, like Julius, but hes shooting them at 38%. His rebounding has been picking up lately as well.

Julius has been great so no complaints from me there. Obi was worth more than what we got but happy hes getting more time.

Yeah but playing 25 mpg as a backup is different than playing 15 mpg. Carlisle plays a more spread out rotation than Thibs and uses Obi more creatively in different lineups.

Either way, we weren’t crazy for thinking Obi needed to cut down his threes last year and attack the rim more again. Not sure why we used him like Chris Copeland towards the end since hes athletic as hell, long, and got a great touch around the rim. He hasnt broken out like some of us thought he could, but he’s still contributing in a bigger role.

Ill say another thing, but we did trade Obi, IQ, and RJ into perfect situations for them. IQ is the one Im worried could make us look dumb, but not like we lost him for nothing like Brunson.

https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/nets-fined-100000-for-violating-nbas-player-participation-policy-in-loss-to-bucks/

Nets fined $100,000 for violating NBA's player participation policy in loss to Bucks

The Brooklyn Nets have been fined $100,000 for violating the NBA's player participation policy, the league announced on Thursday. This is the first time that a team has been fined under the league's new guidelines, which were introduced this summer to reduce load management.

What's worst about this is that most of the players who were held out of the game were given fake medical excuses not to play. The NBA went so far as to have them examined by a real doctor LOL. It seems that team management has no sense of shame.

He's going to have his buddy Dave McMenamin from ESPN ask him a question before or after a practice/game, which always seems planned between the 2 of them before the cameras turn on, where he throws Lebron an alley about what the Lakers need to do before the trade deadline for him to win another championship.

This routine happens between Lebron and Dave McMenamin before every trade deadline.

You have no idea why I dislike the trade. I could care less about the names. But go ahead. Y’all will be complaining soon unless we follow it up with a few moves and that’s including a new coach.

Just a quick question. Right now based off these couple of games is OG worth north of 30 mil? Also wasn’t his main complaint was offensive limitations being put on him. The same thing not happening now? So you think he’ll be happy here long term?

And let’s be clear, I like OG but I don’t like the trade. Bad asset management just like only getting 2 SRPs for Obi

But go ahead ..
