The Knicks need guard shot makers and creators. Rose and Quickley are a start but we don't have that elite option yet who can close out a game for us against the best defenses. That's why even with all their flaws I still think Lavine and Beal are ultimately the best realistic options for this group. We have the coach and the personnel to cover for them defensively and they have elite shot making ability.

If the FO can be patient and wait either until next trade deadline (when their prices come down) or 2022 FA then this team could be loaded.

it's not a good pairing. even offensively it's not great.

Would he even want to be coached by Thibs again?

Can a team that revolves around Rose/IQ/RJ/Bullocks/KAT/Noel for a few seasons be truly competitive, playoff wise?

Yes, I obviously have Mitch going out in the trade.

Absolutely!!!

Imo Randle was a worst defender last year than what Kat is now and look a Julius under kp and jb now!!!!

Just imagine what Kenny Payne and johnnie Bryant can do with Kat!!!!

That Kat & Randle duo would be the best in the league and it wouldn’t even be close.

The amount of playmaking and shooting at the 4&5 would unprecedented and unmatched in nba history!!!!

We’d instantly be the title favorites!!!

Lonzo/Rose
IQ/Burks
Rj/bullock
Randle/?
Towns/taj

Randle is a good player because he cares.

I'm not sure KAT cares in the same way. It's a crucial difference.

Oh well; something of a risk, but I'd assume the Knicks would have the connections via Payne, Calipari, WWW etc etc to really know. Still, can't completely know what is inside someone else's mind/heart.

I certainly don't know, but solid points about KP and earlier, I think Shelby, about KAT making noises about being about "winning" now.

Also, not enough ability to drive the ball from the guard/wings. At least not now. Maybe in a few years.

I'd think this is true but we all know your post is driven by the fact that Mitch would be shown the door or part of the trade. :D

But it's true the Knicks greatest need is a wing who is a triple threat and can get his own shot off at will, effectively, against most of the NBA.
Since RJ is still at the "struggles driving against 50% of the league" phase.
And I'm not knocking RJ. It's just his best play is still a few seasons away, because I think it'll take him that long to solve that part.

Who is your best fit with Randle?
Mitch, pray Obi develops an accurate jumper and the aforementioned creative wing? LaVine?

LaVine, upgrade at 1/2 of PG and continue with the Mitch/Noel tandem?

Thibs couldnt even motivate Towns when minnesota was Towns team, now imagine trying to motivate him as the 2/3 option on this one.

Yeah make it work like Melo did...not really caring about defense.

Nah I don't see it. Not even offensively but def not defensively. There is a giant flashing light in front of us and it says Randle works with a defensive 5. Why doubt or test that when it's pretty clear.

Knicksfan1992 wrote:So ummmmm.... That Chris Haynes piece and the timing behind it is very interesting when it comes to Mr. Lillard....

I've brought him up several times on NBNF for the similar reasons as Chris Haynes. There's really nothing Portland can do to build a title contender and it just feels like only a matter of time before he asks out. They kind of run into the same problems that we have. There's really no other star players on the trade market and they balked at trying to trade for Harden for some reason. I'm sure they'd love to try to turn CJ McCollum into something else but Beal is a lateral move at best and he's not even really on the market. I hate that he's gonna eventually make 50 million a year near the end of his contract but he's actually a star player that would be a real number one option for us. Maybe if Lavine continues on this trajectory, he could have similar impact as Dame but I don't see how the Townses, and Beal's of the world make any sense for us. Neither of those guys are true number ones on great teams. idk if it's possible to bring in dame and sign Lavine but if that's what we should do if it's possible.

It's funny how the book is written on things. History will say he got too many injuries ... but that's not the whole, complete truth. His 3 ball is good but not great. His D sort of faded (could be injuries). He's not real comfortable (pre injury) inside on offense.

Why exactly didn't we go after him? We'd have our 2 guard set for the future.

he seems like a head case off the court and has a reputation of causing trouble in the locker room. i guess the knicks didn't want any of that here like most teams. that's why the rockets got him for free. but yeah, he is very talented and is really what we need at the 2 guard
