I kinda get it if it's a situation like Miles Bridges, who came back for another year but didn't really improve that much, but in the case of Mikal, a guy who has markedly improved every single year, I don't understand

Like, I get the whole "potential" argument, I'm on team Frank after all, but we shouldn't dismiss a player that's proven to grow like Mikal. It's like having someone else develop Frank for 3 years before we draft him, just cause he's older doesn't mean his potential has gone down, it means we have less work to do developing him

I don't know, I just really like Mikal at 9 and I think he has a higher ceiling on offense than some of y'all give him credit for, and is an excellent defender to boot

Exactly. he’s everything this team needs. Well said.

Just for fun - anybody know if it’s possible to trade Kanter right after he opts in? Probably can right? It’s not like he’s a signing FA at that point.

Welcome to the New York Knicks Mikal Bridges

Hopefully. According to his latest draft interview, Perry doesn’t seem to be an ageist like some here... he said he’s “not going to assume that just because a player is 19 years old, that he’s automatically going to be better than a 22 year old.”

Plus he said he likes players who play well on defense, play well within a system, play team ball, aren’t worried about individual stats, and have tournament and championship experience too. A good sign for Mikal  .

Knicks can offer better players than the Suns or Nuggets or Bulls? No way.

Edge Suns, Bulls and Nuggets on young talent

I'd assume the Suns aren't looked to add the 4th pick to the 1st

Edge Bulls in space

I'd say edge Bulls overall

I don't think the Nuggets are really that interested, the report of them wanting to trade 14 to get rid of Faried means to me they'd rather have cap space than picks

The Suns and Bulls might have better young talent, but I don't think they're that much better of trade partners for Memphis than us

Suns are probably out of the picture, as the Grizzlies are looking to trade back, but not all the way out of the lotto like the Suns 2nd 1st rounder, and 1 is off the table. In terms of players, they don't really have much there either. TJ Warren and Alex Len are decent, but both are due extensions this year, Booker and Jackson are off the table, and it doesn't make sense for the Grizzlies to acquire Chandler, and all their other players suck

Bulls are definitely in play, but they're really high on Carter Jr and Porter Jr, one of whom will most definitely be there at 7, so they don't really have a huge incentive to move up. They can definitely offer better vets and LaVine is a better prospect than anything we're offering, so if they wanted to, they could definitely outbid us. Really just depends on who the Bulls want and how the draft shakes out

I'd rather the Knicks trade with the Hawks to ensure Donic (assuming he doesn't go #2) but I don't see the Knicks as trade partners in terms of offering salary relief. The Hawks would just have to like the concept of turning #3 into # 9 and a 2019 unprotected 1st, I'd think. Or like 1-3 protected. In fact, it would probably take #9, #36, and a future 1st.
I'm not paying close enough attention, but it seems like the Knicks would have to send about the same amount of salary the Hawks are looking to dump. Oh, and I'd take Bazemore on in a minute. But only for #3, and honestly, I'd assume the Hawks are dangling Bazemore for #19 or #20

Yeah, it's looking like if we want Doncic, we'd have to get to 3

I don't think we're good trade partners with the Hawks though, unless we're giving them KP

Unlike Memphis, they're just starting their rebuild, so young players interest them more than salary relief. Even then, the only trade I found that would give them relief is Lee, LFT, Mudiay, Dotson, and Burke for Plumlee and Bazemore, which would save them 6 million this year, and 17 million next year, or give them Tim (who they definitely don't want but it'd be funny). Not worth it for them.

And I'm not a fan of unprotected picks, and I think we're gonna be bad next year, but not bottom 3 bad, so I'd want at least top 10 protection on that pick, and still I don't think Atlanta goes for it

Yeah but I'm sure his source is Bamba/Bamba's agent and he is making an assumption based on the intel he received.

He's full of shyt.

Tweet says "he thinks they're comfortable" meaning he doesn't have a source that's sure, he's just basing it off what he's heard from other teams

Everything you read this time of year is speculative bullsh*t

lol so you would trade frank and 9 for a worst contract and 4? noah does not have one year less on his contract then Parsons.

I thought so. Not sure why the option isn’t being discussed to offer Kanter or pure cap space to Mem (after July 1st). I know they want to improve, but pure savings or an expiring has to be pretty attractive. And Kanter might opt out if he knows he’s getting traded if he opts in. I wonder what the union would think of that?

Only way I'd be happy with it is if we don't have to give up KP or Frank to get 4

Really depends on how much Memphis likes Tim/Burke/Lee/Dotson, cause I'd do them and 9 for 4 in a heartbeat, but that's unrealistic for Memphis to take

There's probably something in the CBA that prohibits that, I can see that being abused by teams and the union wouldn't like it
