That team could potentially be a 8 seed in like 3 years. How exciting!!!!

But AD was always a maybe - it's a trade.
Kawhi is a total wildcard.
Durant was different. Minus those accusations being leveled about "entitled" Knick fans in another topic, there was STRONG smoke he was coming here.
Now the Knicks are just another team with their fingers crossed, only with a perception of being awful for 20 years they still can't shake.
Lost my enthusiasm for the off season last night. Sure, I'll pay attention. Speculate a little. But it's different now. Anyone who doesn't see that is being a little bit foolish.
Achilles from what I understand is certainly not career threatening. Dr.Chao the guy who broke this thing on the net said it shouldn't affect his FA. Kawhi with a more mysterious injury was traded for when not fully healed and it worked out pretty well.
Well then you need to read up more
Players don't just come back from achilles, Nique is the lone example of a player being what he was before the injury after it. Even if he comes back and is good, he's not gonna be the same KD. Kawhi's injury being mysterious helped because nobody knew what it was, so you can take the risk it's something to come back from which it was, but an achilles tear is quantifiable, we know how bad it is
The Dr. Chao guy said if it was only a partial tear it shouldn't affect his free agency, because a partial tear you can come back from but it's still really risky because the potential to re-tear it (fully this time) is much higher. Full tear, there's no getting back from that

Hard to build around him when you have no picks, no cap, no prospects.
When you trade everything for one player, you are always going to play catch-up for the next 3 years. You just have to ask yourself if this one player is worth it or not.
hard to build around him when you don't amnesty amare, use picks for bargnani, give the cap to noah, lee I would say.

you could just go be a nets fan, kyrie is going there he's pretty exciting, some of ya'll act like someone is forcing you at gunpoint to root for this team

None of them went the "Big 3" route where they cleared huge amount of cap or waited until they had drafted a superstar core to start building out. All built incrementally and made good use of the assets they had. Toronto got Kawhi by building up their pool. They had an all star and good role player, both of whom they drafted in the mid-lotto. Warriors built a champion core from mid-lottery players and second rounders. Blazers took on salary for the pick they got that yielded Lillard. Then they picked McCollum 10th and have tinkered until they had a conference finals ready team. Bucks got Giannis at Pick 15. Middleton in a trade. Brogdon in the 2nd round.
This idea that you have to grab stars before doing anything else is misguided. There are other ways to do it. Draft well, pick up good pieces and additional assets where you can, and build incrementally is a fine way to do it.

The odds any of the kids we have become stars is slim to none
You know what’s won titles for as long as the nba has been alive? Top of the league players.
The idea that we wouldn’t sign or trade for these players to keep our own players who might not even be good nba players never mind Stars is extremely dumb.
Yeah lets trade for a guy who can come here next year while keeping assets just to have him a year early. I'm clearly not dumb or the trade would be done already.

The whole waiting for a guy to walk here without relinquishing assets doesn't work. See how that played out for the Lakers and Paul George?
Want to risk another lowkey butthurt franchise running your target into the ground during his last days with their organization?
You really trust Pelicans or Boston or any team renting him to handle gently? How do you drive your rental cars?

They would suck short term. Long term, there's a playoff team and possibly more with internal development.

Miami poisoned peoples' minds into believing that all it takes is clearing the cap space and you can make your own big 3 too.
Except that was the only time it has happened, unless you include Boston which I really don't.
I hope there is finally a realization dawning on most Knicks fans that you have build a decent roster first to maximize the success of max cat signings.
Anyway, KD's injury altered the landscape immensely last night and every club has to recalibrate their off-season strategy in response.
I don't feel like Perry is going to throw KD a sympathy deal just because it was assumed he was coming here. The Knicks owe Durant zip and I cannot see Perry going all in on an achilles heel.

We have tried it all but building with our own and adding pieces.
I don't buy it. AD is better than Melo was and it wasn't the trade that was the issue, it was how the team built around Melo. Look at what we gave up for prime Melo, it's a joke. Even Ujiri mentioned this and he made the deal. You need superstars to win in the league, at least one. We have a chance to get one for 30 cents on the dollar. The KD stuff has made it a little less desirable but I still think Perry is going to go for it.
You nailed it. It's how we built around him.
