I'm with you. After all of this time, it seems like we'll end up with Greg Monroe as our big acquisition

With that in mind we need free agents that can get buckets and move the ball. I do agree on home town product Green being brought in he can keep defenses honest while playing great defense.

And yet you want Monroe.![]()

Dragic would be a perfect fit. He's not an elite defender, but he is a good one.
Green is looking at 10+ a year, btw. Meeks is getting 7/year and Green>Meeks on both sides of the ball.
Okafor is currently a close 3rd choice behind Towns and Russell (who are 1a/1b).

Monroe gets a good amount of steals and he rebounds, he also guards his man. All things Okafor doesn't do. He can also hit a free throw.

He's an atrocious team defender (slow to rotate, bad in pick and rolls, doesn't talk on defense). He's not a good defender...at all. Oh yeah, and he'll cost significantly more. If it's between Okafor and Monroe, I think everyone on the board and every GM would take Okafor 10 times out of 10.

What is your argument?
Its not Okafor or Monroe. One is a pick the other a free agent. You just don't like him I get that but so what. Alot of people do want him even if you don't. What player are you getting that fits perfectly with Okafor?

Amir Johnson fits.
Like I said before, Okafor is #3 on my list. I just want absolutely nothing to do with Monroe.

Johnson is not a good enough rebounder or defender to make up for Okafor. My point is as much as you don't like Monroe he fits with Towns. They can play off each other's strengths and weaknesses.

I personally don't think the knicks have a shot to lure any marquee free agents this off-season.
Dragic- not sure if he wants to leave Miami...the organization, the taxes, the weather, the team, the coaching is all superior. The only thing we could possibly get him with is that he will be the guy running the team. He will be the second fiddle to Melo though.
Gasol- is gasol really going to leave Memphis, a legit title contender and place where he has his roots and history, for NYK? A team currently in a rebuild, with little hope of improvement next season? Not to mention a paycut? I'm not gettting my hopes up.
Aldridge- same story. Portland might not be a title contender in my eyes( I don't think they can beat the best teams out west in a 7 game series) but they are certainly better than the Knicks, and look to be for the foreseeable future. So he'd have to take a paycut, move 3,000 miles across the country, and come to a team that is worse. On top of that the Knicks will probably have a young big man down low who will need touches to gain confidence and grow. Does Aldridge want to defer his touches to Melo AND a young, raw prospect? Doubt it. And if he doesn't, we are going to have a talented young big, with huge potential being asked to play garbage man or sit the bench. Darko anybody?
Jimmy Butler- Looks like he will be a star in this league for a long time. Young, athletic, can score, can play D. Basically does it all. And that is the reason that a smart franchise like the Bulls won't let him go....especially with Rose being so questionable. Players like Butler do not grow on trees. I see no way the bulls do not match a max offer. He is the linchpin of their future at this point.
Now that leaves us with Millsap, Jordan, Jefferson, Monroe and the like. Do we really want to overpay for one of these guys? Jordan and Monroe are very good players, but are they max players? Doubt it. And that is probably what we will have to offer to get one of them. If we can get them on a reasonable deal then I am ok with it, but for some reason the word reasonable, and the Knicks front office rarely go hand in hand. I would rather just sign some good glue guys and roll with Melo + OK4 for a season and give him room to grow. Then maybe try to splash in free agency the next season or make a trade.
TLDR- no real chance at any of the big names this offseason, and definitely don't want to overpay the 2nd tier guys just for the sake of it. Maybe Brandon Knight?

His defense would help mitigate Okafor's poor defense, though. I also don't think Monroe fits with Towns. I'm done here, though. Agree to disagree...again.

Why are you done now?
