You don't trade him, and "just find someone else to replace his shooting". I said again and again, he makes our offense special, the way OG makes our defense special.
Actually 3 things that make our offense special:
- Donte's shooting
- JB's brilliance
- Julius' physicality (I'm now in keep Ju camp, hard to find someone as physical as Ju on offense)
These are the three elements that synergistically work with each other, teams have to specifically gameplan to stop/ contain them. Have these 3 we are unstoppable, take one out and we're beatable.
Furthermore, Donte is improving not only as a shooter but as a scorer, slasher, better finisher in the paint. He's disruptive defensively and may grow to even become a better defender. Also, already clutch in playoffs and biggest stage, what more do you want?
Donte is almost definitely not getting traded.....
-He shoots the 3 extremely well
-Him being a Brunson close friend and Nova buddy definitely played a big role here signing him in the 1st place
- He is on a good contract
The guys who are much more likely to get traded are McBride, Mitch Rob (esp if we sign I Hart), Bogs of course, Achiuwa and maybe even Randle if it is for an absolute superstar player.
I don't really like "we won't trade Hart or Divo because they're Nova Knicks" bs... I actually wish Divo and Hart had come from different colleges a and the 3 just became organically great buddies... imo the "Nova Knicks" thing is great FOR THEM, and not necessarily for other guys on the team, it has capacity of alienating and dividing the locker room, esp JB is the clear cut franchise player, everyone has to get along with him, but oh if you aren't from Nova you ain't in the "exclusive club". Though JB has been a great leader and a great teammate to everyone (not only to Hart and Divo), theres no escaping the thought "Hart and Divo are invincible, cuz they're Nova Knicks, and best buddies with the franchise guy" of course they get special treatment... duh.. !
This is why I actually cringe at the thought we should get Mikal "cuz he's the final Nova piece", not as much because he fills what we need. If we really get him, the Nova group only became bigger and stronger, again good FOR THEM, not necessarily for the team imo.
That said, I'm not for trading Hart or Divo at all, nor against trading for Mikal. Whatever is good for the team. But the Nova thing should be downplayed as much as possible imo, it makes it seem (although I believe it's not their intention) the Nova guys have their own agenda aside of the whole team's common agenda of winning a championship.
