It's good for a small forward. Not good enough if he wants to win a championship.

His role is to score. If we have a competent point guard, then 3 APG is perfectly fine.
Also, look at the last 10 years. How many championship teams have small forwards who average more than 3.6 APG? 2 - LeBron and Paul Pierce.
Jesus Christ, y'all expect Melo to be LeBron...he's not. He's Carmelo Anthony. Let him do what he does best. Stop finding poor excuses to hate him.
How many of those championship team's best player was a small forward?
It's not a poor excuse. And I find it hilarious that the guy is blaming Linsanity for his selfish moniker while he is playing in a tournament where he shot 63 FGA while making 4 assists.
If there is a team that resembles ours, it is the Mavericks. Melo, in this case, would be Dirk -- offense runs through him, but there are players around him who fill their roles well.
It's not the small forward's role to be the primary playmaker for the team. Unless the player is simply a transcendent talent, like LeBron, expecting him to do that is simply unreasonable. I don't get why you want him to pass more when we've already seen that him playing point-forward hurts him, and the team, as a direct result (last year w/D'Antoni when he was in that role).
It is a poor excuse because you are expecting him/wanting him to play a role he is not fit to play.
FWIW, I already acknowledged that his quote that you are referring to was stupid/simply wrong.
