As long as we can agree it's a double-standard I don't really care but, what's the limit for years in the league before a player telling the press he wants opportunities on the floor switches from whining to being alright?Thugger HBC wrote:Not sure where the cancer part is referencing, haven't called him such, but yes....he is whining.
Go two or three pages back from my original post that started this conversation. The Kanter comment was a reference to a couple of pages of cancer talk in the posts leading up to my original statement.Thugger HBC wrote:Berman keeps coming to him because he knows he'll get the answer he desires. Players want to play normally, I'll never disagree there. But most especially a 2nd year player would normally just say "I'm waiting my turn, meaning while I'm still working" and end it there.
But Willy isn't doing that, he's playing the entitled role and saying "play me or trade me". And that's not cool.
Again, I don't agree with double standards just because a guy was in the league longer. Willy's been on the Knicks longer, he waited his turn for half a season last year than took his opportunity and was a rebound shy of a double-double per game over the last three months of the season. I'm not sure how many players go from averaging near a double-double to benched without playing time, but I certainly don't picture any of them telling the media "I'm waiting my turn" regardless of how long they've been in the league.
I get your point. I still think in this scenario...Billy is wrong. The team has repeatedly said he's part of the future. 2 older players have basically played better than him and, there is a logjam at his position. Him saying he'd be open to a trade so he can play is not really a team player mentality. He can't wait until Kyle or, in a long shot, Kanter gets traded? He can't keep this in house?
He's coming off as an entitled little kid. He has been commenting to the media since the beginning of the year. He's acting like his non impact play when given minutes warrants more PT. He is trying to force his way on the court when he clearly knows what the team wants/needs to do. He keeps acting like he's accomplished that. He hasn't had more than 2-3 decent outings all year that I recall.
Again...I think he's been looked over too many times but, he hasn't done much to warrant being a nuisance in the press. Go to the HC. If you don't like his answer...go to the GM. Talking to the biggest media troll in NY besides Isola is not a good move. Unless it comes out that he went to them and got treated poorly. I doubt that happened but, anything is possible.
Seems like he thinks he's being slick. Not a good look honestly.
