He's nowhere near as good as Manute Bol was. Bol was a better shooter at this stage as well.

It's impressive but being number 22 on a list of something isn't THAT awesome.

I love Mitch and think he's great but it's starting to get to be a reach with the lists.

It's an all-time stat. Doing a quick search, since blocks have been counted as a stat, there were approximately 120 million rookies in the NBA. 22 out of 345 million is pretty awesome.

Might want to recheck your math there :o

LOL...I was a huge Big Ben fan but I think Mitch will end up being a lot more dynamic on offense

Mitch can finish better than Big Ben right now. Ben never was the athlete Mitch is. Mitch is also very crafty around the rim. It's a part of his game that is vastly underrated. He has great touch and some awesome finger-rolls from unorthodox angles and release points.

His jumper hasn't been unleashed in games yet and he is reluctant to pull the trigger. But it shall be revealed in time.

Hopefully. It'll be the difference between very good and great. Also, hopefully the Knicks coaches, who are supposed to be all about developing players, develop him a go to post move or two - a back to basket move he can break out now and again to keep the defense honest, get some easy points. He's got the agility and touch to do it, as you pointed out.

Let me just address those Manute Bol vs Mitch comments.

Mitch is FAR better than Manute Bol, already.

Was Manute an awesome shot blocker (and human being)? Yes.
Was Manute better at blocking shots/intimidation in the interior than Mitch is now? Yup.

A little later in his career - year 4, actually, Manute starts shooting 3's and is actually not bad at it. So we MIGHT say "Manute a better shooter than Mitch".

But Mitch has 3 seasons to catch up to that.

But here's the thing. Manute at 7'7", with long arms, when he was in, really changed the game INSIDE on defense. Mitch is intimidating inside but also has the ability to switch to the perimeter, move his feet and guard that man, still recover back inside and as a bonus, is blocking jumpers and 3 point shots all over the place. Big edge to Mitch. Also, while Mitch is pretty raw offensively and is limited to lobs and putbacks, Manute was a liability on offense. They'd put him way outside to draw a big and basically play 4 on 5. Mad scientist and current weed connoisseur extraordinaire Don Nelson made him learn to, and take, 3's, figuring he's way out there anyway, get some points, maybe if he gets good enough he'd draw coverage even more. It sort of worked. Let's not forget for all his good play, Manute never really played more than about 18 mpg, due somewhat to fragility, and also because he was a fairly limited role player.

even tho mitch worked on his ball skills last year and was training with ad on that stuff, i don't know how translatable that stuff is just yet. his one dribble move this year seemed like a pretty high dribble in traffic and that resulted in a quick turnover.

all he needs to do is attack a closeout vs a big tho, so it could still be an interesting area of his game potentially.

post-ups im warming up to because of his agility and touch around the rim. his footwork is kind of bad so there's a lot of potential to improve. he has to be able to read the defense and pass out of double teams from the post though.

why not try to get Mitch on the USA team for the 2019 world cup tournament? that would be a great experience and certainly help his learning. not to mention all the highlights we would see!
