Let me just address those Manute Bol vs Mitch comments.
Mitch is FAR better than Manute Bol, already.
Was Manute an awesome shot blocker (and human being)? Yes.
Was Manute better at blocking shots/intimidation in the interior than Mitch is now? Yup.
A little later in his career - year 4, actually, Manute starts shooting 3's and is actually not bad at it. So we MIGHT say "Manute a better shooter than Mitch".
But Mitch has 3 seasons to catch up to that.
But here's the thing. Manute at 7'7", with long arms, when he was in, really changed the game INSIDE on defense. Mitch is intimidating inside but also has the ability to switch to the perimeter, move his feet and guard that man, still recover back inside and as a bonus, is blocking jumpers and 3 point shots all over the place. Big edge to Mitch. Also, while Mitch is pretty raw offensively and is limited to lobs and putbacks, Manute was a liability on offense. They'd put him way outside to draw a big and basically play 4 on 5. Mad scientist and current weed connoisseur extraordinaire Don Nelson made him learn to, and take, 3's, figuring he's way out there anyway, get some points, maybe if he gets good enough he'd draw coverage even more. It sort of worked. Let's not forget for all his good play, Manute never really played more than about 18 mpg, due somewhat to fragility, and also because he was a fairly limited role player.
