I still say this is a bunch of hot air. When something doesn't make sense, it doesn't make sense.

NJ right now is 10-27. They would have to go 31-14 just to hit .500.

I don't see it as currently constructed. They might make the playoffs so, you know, congrats on that.

at this point all we can hope for is anthiny says he is going to wait to be a free agent im starting to thin that if Walsh could make a deal he would have and wouldnt be leaving this to chance. He must know that there is no way denver is trading him to us

Ever since Melo and CP3 showed up the Denver owner at the wedding, he has made it his mission to not deal with the Knicks.

putiger78 wrote:The Nets situation after this trade is just terrible for Melo:

- Billups won't even want to be there, besides the fact that his skills are diminished.
- Lack of draft picks.
- Some terrible contracts... between the contracts of Melo, Outlaw, Hamilton, Farmar and Morrow... no cap flexibility. And by the time the big 2012 guys become free agents, you will have to extend Lopez to huge money and you probably have a more restrictive cap.
- No assets that are very attractive in a trade. Farmar, Morrow, could have some value, but not meaningful value.

I mean, how is that Nets team going to improve? Melo makes them a 500 team... but not much better than that.

Agreed. I just don't think Melo fears the upcomming CBA to the point that he'd sign the extension just to avoid a paycut. He said as much a few months back and if it were all about the money then he would've resigned months ago.

NJ is about to take a big gamble. They're going to trade picks and players based on the hope that Melo can be convinced to stay by season's end. At this point I'm indifferent to the whole thing anyway. As much as the Knicks need a 2nd star it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for us to use our cap and go get a big to compliment Stat.

It'd only be temporary. We all remember how "excited" he was when a reporter told him he'd been traded to NJ a few months back. Not exactly a guy in a rush to go to Newark. Maybe someone could create a Sopranos spoof where Melo is driving to NJ and crying the whole way.

If I am the Nets, I do this trade, just because you have to do something to get some credibility. But for Melo, the only reason to do this is money. He must truly hate Denver and truly believe he is going to lose a lot of money if he waits for FA. Because winning wise, the NJ situation is not good.

I don't think that they have any chance to go 31-14, nor 28-17 either. They would need 28 more wins to have a shot at the playoffs and that may not do it.

You get the sense that Berger doesn't think that's definite. Sheridan might still be holding firm too. We need Sheridan to re-surface lol.

If I'm the Nets I don't do this trade. They've acquired several picks, have a good cap situation going forward, and are a relatively young team. Rather than acquire a potential malcontent that's going to leave at season's end anyway they'd be better off drafting guys or trading for someone that they're certain to have for more than a few weeks.

Yeah its a fair point... but how long do you live with being a doormat without doing anything? Besides, if that is your strategy, you don't give Travis Outlaw a huge contract.

If Melo will ONLY sign an extension w the Knicks, and does not want to be a Net--- why is his agent pushing the Pistons into this deal.

Is it a PR friendly way for Melo to be like ok i'll go but I don't know if Im going to sign an extension, I need to think about it, then the Nets void the deal, and the Nuggets get desperate and take a 1st rd pick, a couple expiring deals, and toney douglas for Melo and JR Smith?
