the other trade w/o porzingis that i listed was because ainge is getting desperate and he's going to throw the farm at them. we must be at least a little competitive in that respect. Have to add gerian to play with his brother, and an unprotected pick which will mean jack **** for us anyway if we have Okafor-Porzingis frontcourt to build around.

I don't care what anyone says, Okafor has the potential to be a straight up beast. On top of his absurd post scoring, he is a passer on the tier of Marc Gasol

Image

He has a 7'5" wingspan. The length of Porzingis + Okafor front court would be godly. The combination of post scoring from Okafor and Porzingis' ability to operate from out far would be godly. Whoever we could land in 2018 wouldnt be nearly as good as Okafor.

I doubt they'd take Calderon honestly and probably have no interest in our other assets at this point so they'd likely want our 2018 1st. Truth be told Philly never should have taken Okafor but LA called Hinkie's bluff, his "process" is becoming a downright joke at this point as he seems to have no direction he's going other than acquiring assets and that will not sit well with players. He should start building a team that will fit together and compete.

Agreed.

Except I'm wiling to do Porzingis+2018 for Okafor too, but that's as far as I'm going

Hinkie definitely jumps on that

If we want them here, it's simple.

year 1 16.6 max
year 2 16.6 + 5% PLAYER OPTION MAX
year 3 (16.6 +5%) + 5% PLAYER OPTION MAX

that gets it done.

Aldridge max will be close to 20 million.

Let's say hypothetically Knicks get Gasol to commit to come to NY. Knicks would only have roughly 7M in cap space. Now they go to Aldridge with the idea of forming a big 3 in NY. I doubt Portland turns down an offer of Calderon and KP for Aldridge. Knicks would be pretty thin outside of min salary players. However, that front line would be killer.

It doesn't have to be Gasol either. Could be Middleton, Butler, or whoever.

I've never been a believer in having a BIG three. It literally leaves you with nothing else. Plenty of Championships have been won with having just the right role players or just two Max players. I'd rather have an all around team.

Philly took Okafor because he has a good upside, while simultaneously keeping the team unbalanced, which leads to losses and another high pick.

It's not illegal what their GM is doing but it's sort of disgusting. Then again, this is what the NBA gets for the system it has. I'm torn, as the cap combined with decent money rules for the players has MOSTLY keep homegrown talent at home and basically let the league have parity, on the other hand, for the last 40 years the NBA is 95% strings of dynasties of teams fortunate enough to draft the best player, which honestly gets old after a while

I was against Carroll at first, but he does have a relentless motor and good 3 point shot and very nice D.

However, for the $ he wants, not so sure. It would be great to have him as a swing man off the bench, but Knicks need a starting SG.

Lets be realistic
Monroe/Bynum/Aldrich
West/KP/Almuson
Anthony/Early/Thanasis
Green/Shved/Ledo
Galloway/Calderon/Grant
Hopefully we can move Jose. Then make a run for Durant next year. I want Harris but money is short and we have to be decisive or wind up with nothing after everyone goes elsewhere and Monroe goes to Portland.
Some of you think we can save all our cap for next year but no one eill come to a empty team.

He isn't a liability on offense by any stretch of the imagination and one of the top defensive players at this position. He has a motor, contributed to a winning team.

If he was top offensive player at this position and was a contributor on defense with his motor people wouldn't question paying him.

Makes ya wonder how much people REALLY value defense.

There was nothing Philly could have done in the draft aside from possibly dealing future picks they have received, basically cashing in and getting pieces for this year. He could have put together a deal for Tyus Jones, for example.

I've been a firm believer in him not coming here but combined with him seeming to take advice from his brother and the Grizzles making moves to get more offensive weapons, I'm starting to believe that he may consider New York. As long as Pau has floated some great fairy tales about Phil I think we may have a chance 8-)

I don't mind him because you could even start him at SG. He would be a defender that can help Melo, and can also play the 3 in a small ball line up. I would prefer Danny Green but there are much worse signings than Carroll.

I think that philly is taking a little more flack than they deserve. If embiid was able to play they might not look so bad. The okafor pick was a good pick too. Really they aren't an different than what the wolves have done except the wolves had a disgruntled star to trade away.

I took two things from gasol's statement.

1) he's not a lock to stay in mem at all otherwise this would never have even come up

2) franchise behavior has ramifications. I think we have a lot of player good will from Phil right now but Dolan might balance that the other way. We shall see.

Also I'd consider Ben Gordon at a vet min.

Could be a very nice scoring punch off the bench while he looks for a new contract

I wonder if Emeka Okafor is ready to go this season. I would love to get him for our bench.

Return to New York Knicks
