I'm not sure where you gleaned that understanding from though. There is ton of reporting that Kidd is interested. Even if you don't believe those reporters, the real smoking gun is that this process is continuing.
Do I think Kidd is an upgrade over Thibs as an Xs and O's guy? No, but I don't think Thibs was necessarily a bad one.
I do think Kidd will definitely be more collaborative with the FO than Thibs and I think that is what this is really about.
This is what stein said the other day so I’m not sure Kidd really wants to leave.Kidd, though, is believed to be happy in Dallas despite the extreme tumult of the past season, which saw the Mavericks stun the entire league and deeply wound huge segments of their fan base by trading Dončić to the Lakers without warning on Feb. 2. He has spoken often in recent weeks about his excitement for the opportunity to coach Duke phenom Cooper Flagg, who is poised to be selected No. 1 overall by the Mavericks in this month's NBA Draft.
Kidd's presence in Dallas has been frequently cited as a key factor in the success of its trade gamble to acquire Kyrie Irving in February 2023 to pair him with Dončić. Irving is known to relish playing for Kidd, who likewise has a strong relationship with new Mavericks cornerstone Anthony Davis. Irving, who holds a $44 million player option for next season that he must activate or bypass by June 29, is expected to negotiate a new contract with Dallas this summer.
I guess I could probably live with Kidd. But if we can’t get him that’s going to be pretty interesting to see what their backup plan is
Stein is one guy, who is clearly being sourced by the Mavs, who have their own agenda in the situation.
I can post Windy, Bondy, and a few other NY sources that say differently.
If we can't get him then I'm sure we have other options, but I don't think we'd be spending this much time on him if there wasn't already knowledge about where he stands.
You do have some good points
