just from the past week or so heres two young players on teams that are trying to win that fit your example:

Myles Turner closed out a close game against the Suns: http://espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=400828515
Justise Winslow closed out a close game against the Bulls: http://espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=400828556

didnt even dig deep.. just 2 easy examples there that took me like 1 min to find lol. Both are younger than AG + Hezonja BTW.

edit: jabari closed out a close game against the rockets the other night: http://espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?id=400828537

all 3 of the games above just occured the past several days or so

You should pay attention to injury reports before you make statements like that...Indiana's starting center, Mahinmi has been out; and nearly all Miami's key front court is out...that kind of matters.

What about when Justise Winslow closed out a game the first week of the season on a healthy Heat team?

Why didn't the Pacers backup C Jordan Hill close out the game?

I am all for more accountability and not allowing bad habits to develop. However even with that Skiles needs to find more opportunity for Gordon and Hezonja (as two latest picks). This would not come at the expense of Magic or rest of the "core" but rather would reduce amounts of minutes that veterans get (who'll be gone before this team becomes a contender).

Who are these veterans who's minutes you would cut?

- Jason Smith? can Gordon or Hezonja play center? can Skiles slide Harris or Fournier or anyone else over to play center?

- Channing Frye? he's playing a whopping 15mpg and never closes games...and btw all the young guys play better when he's on the court because he opens lanes for them, but whatever right - thats not helping them develop

- CJ Watson? he's been MIA since game 8

Who are these veterans you speak of? 23 year olds Fournier, Harris and Oladipo? who are at least 2 full seasons away from even entering their prime so are nowhere near close to being developed?

did you just hear yourself say why didn't LOL Jordan Hill close the game? Look at Miami's roster, Winslow is surrounded by vets.

not if they have a better option at the position obviously...Smith is half a decade older than Vuc but obviously you go with the better player...Harris and Fournier are way more developed than AG (3 years in fact) and Fournier and Oladipo are more developed than Hezonja...but hey if you want to nitpick for details that don't matter to convince yourself about your theory go ahead ...does nothing to convince me

Just want to point out that we started slumping as Nicholson played fewer and fewer minutes....

I very rarely post but read nearly everything on this board but I have to say something. You are all over reacting every single game and it's becoming unbearable. It was never like this before, even if we had a great or terrible team a loss wasn't a catastrophic event that called your individual fandom into question. You are all correct Skiles is by far the most harsh on Aaron Gordon and Hezonja, their leash is extremely tight we can all see that. However, you must understand that is because they have the most God given talent of anyone on the team and they're young. Their athletic tools are outstanding and those don't disappear in a week or 6 months. So when Skiles pulls one from the game for a bad turnover, a stupid shot or a defensive lapse it teaches them to play properly. Do I think that both could impact the game more so than Napier and frye irrespective of turnovers and bad shots, absolutely. Does allowing them to do that teach them to become better basketball players in the long run? Absolutely not. This is a serious question, did any of actually play basketball? Because it's absolutely normal for the same to happen at all levels. Unless you're a Lebron or a kd you shouldn't be told do whatever you want and you'll figure it out as you go. As a freshman, sophomore in high school the seniors and juniors play. Its because they've learnt how to play or at least so understand how to play. We're currently on pace for about 35-38 wins this year and that's not so bad it's about where everyone had us before the season. Our core is so young these players you want rid of Fournier, Oladipo etc are all under 24. The passion is obviously good but just relax these kids are so young they will make mistakes and it will be frustrating but it the long run this will be for the best.

In saying all this do I think Skiles is a perfect coach who deserves none of the blame, absolutely not. However, you're acting as if this is all this fault. We had a four point lead with 17 seconds to go. We made two poor plays. He needs to get angry and make sure that these young guys don't do that again. Do you honestly believe behind closed doors him and his coaching staff have absolved themselves of the blame, of course not. You're all complaining about the lineup of Payton, Oladipo, Fournier,Harris and vucevic but what he did was run out our five best players against their five best players. Again, if you've played basketball you'd know this is relatively common to do. I'm sorry for the rant I'm sure it will make no difference and i make no claims to be absolutely correct but please just be patient. Talent takes time and needs to be taught properly.

There would be a lot less frustration if he would hold Fournier and to a degree Oladipo more accountable or at least give other players more leeway. When Oladipo was laying bricks every game this season Skiles was saying he wanted him to keep shooting because "we know he's a better shooter than that". And yes, historically he is... marginally lol. But dude was just chucking horrible shot after horrible shot. And not horrible just because he missed, but horrible because they were just bad shot selection. Now can you imagine what would happen to Gordon if he were doing that?

Hezonja's leash

Gordon's leash
---

Oladipo's leash
-----------------------------------------

Fournier's leash
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Fournier love affair has gone too far. I'd have no problem with him if we just used him like his talent level and abilities dictate. Off the bench for 20 minutes unless he's absolutely killing it. This is a guy that should only be in the game if he's getting good looks off from the outside and attacking closeouts well and making shots. He's a mediocre defender and he stalls ball movement.
