I get a kick out of this sort of statement. I assume you are trying to indicate it's better for our lottery chances somehow.
The fact is, there will always be a set number of lottery teams. Being one of the two worst will always guarantee a top five pick, which is probably the place to be in this draft. But it doesn't help our chances any. No matter which teams are bad, the chances for winning a particular slot won't change.
I'm tempted to argue that the worst thing that could happen is for teams like Boston or the LA Lakers to suck, because if they do, you can be sure the league will fix it so they get the big name franchise player in the draft. Except that sounds way too pessimistic, even for me.
Another factor people seem to be missing is we're going to be better as well. All those first and second year players have another year of experience under their belt. Harris will be on the team from the beginning of the year. We added what looks to be an impact player in Dipo who has shown some pretty impressive skills in summer. Veteran players will be back from injury. Vucevic will be even more effective, and Harmless has shown flashes of Improvement in SL as well.
Jacque Vaughn and his staff will be better as well, with a full season and a second training camp under their belts.
I'm not saying we're going to set any records, but the team by nature of having another year of development and adding a couple of key players will be better. We probably don't make the playoffs unless a couple of guys take huge strides forward, but I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that we find ourselves at the bottom again, unless we dump just about every vet - notably Afflalo and BBD - and intentionally flush the season.
As much as I'd love to see is add Wiggins, I'm not sure it's a healthy team culture to expect young players like Viucevic, Harris, Dipo and Harris to force themselves to the bottom of the standings.
