Supposedly:

Sources said that deal will likely send Rashard Lewis to Washington for Arenas, as well as a Wizards big man to replace Gortat. Both deals could happen at around the same time.

Who cares about Martin? The guy is soft as Charmin'. OMG. Just stop. J-Rich is better in every way. We just need to figure out a way to bring him back.

They must really think they won't have to pay some of this salary. Magic ownership will be leading the cries for a lockout, haha.

So does anyone think Phoenix will buyout Carter or keep him on the team?

Jason Richardson: PPS: 1.24 A/TO: 1.2

FAN-TASTIC.

Because we were already getting ass raped by Hedo's contract, so why not enjoy it?

I like it! I'm convinced!

Arenas will be coming off the bench guys. He will not be starting.
Arenas coming off the bench is going to be VERY good for the team.

WE DON'T HAVE VC AND LEWIS ANYMORE!

I'm happy with this trade. Earl Clark has HUGE potential. This team is going to be better than the current roster.

I agree with ALL of this. I think Arenas would be great off the bench. That way if he gets hurt, the starting line up would stay the same. Or, if he's healthy, he could be a Manu for us.

So, basically:

Rashard Lewis (12.2ppg/4.2rpg/1.2apg/0.9spg/0.4bpg in 32.4 mpg) for Gilbert Arenas (17.3ppg/3.3rpg/5.6apg/1.4spg/0.6bpg in 34.6 mpg)
Vince Carter (15.1ppg/4.1rpg/2.9apg/0.9spg/0.1bpg in 30.2 mpg) for Jason Richardson (19.3ppg/4.4rpg/1.4apg/1.1spg/0.1bpg in 31.8 mpg)
Marcin Gortat (4.0ppg/4.7rpg/0.7apg/0.3spg/0.8bpg in 15.8 mpg) for Earl Clark (3.2ppg/1.9rpg/0.4apg/0.1spg/0.3bpg in 8 mpg)
Mickael Pietrus (6.7ppg/2.6rpg/0.5apg/0.5spg/0.2bpg in 22 mpg) for Hedo Turkoglu (9.5ppg/4rpg/2.3apg/0.7spg/0.3bpg in 25.2 mpg)

Awesome!!

The cash is probably for the $4 mil Carter is owed next year. I have no freaking clue why we added the 1st or Gortat for that matter.

Gortat had to be there. Phoenix was jerking off to the idea of Lopez/Gortat shift at C.

More role players could be in the deal but this is the biggest midseason overhaul of a team ever.

Earl Clark is probably in the deal to make up for Gortat but I do not like it along with kicking in a first.

I do not like the Phoenix deal.

There is a reason why J-Rich has bounced around so much and Hedo Turkoglu has an oversized contract and is wearing down.

Maybe this helps jumps start things in the short run but I do not think this is a good deal for the long-term future of this team.

I agree. Hedo flourished in this system and he will do it again. Richardson is SUPERIOR to Carter at this stage in terms of an athletic wing that van finish and shoot his arse off. I think we gave up a bit much if we lose Gortat but I am sure that Otis was seeing his value go down also. Can't accuse him of staying pat. He had to do something.

Howard Mass works his magic! No wonder no one has been patrolling the F&S forum!

IMO they need another big, they will be in trouble inside if Dwight gets into foul trouble in the playoffs.

Hoopsworld reports;

The Orlando Magic have completed trades with the Washington Wizards and Phoenix Suns that will radically change the face of the team.

In two separate trades, the Magic acquired Gilbert Arenas from the Wizards in exchange for Rashard Lewis, and they re-acquired Hedo Turkoglu, who was a member of the 2009 NBA Finals team, by sending Vince Carter, Marcin Gortat and Mikael Pietrus to the Suns. Orlando also gets Jason Richardson from Phoenix in the deal.

This is a risky move for the Magic, no question, as they give up their only back-up center in the deal, and they also take on a huge contract in Gilbert Arenas, whose injury history is well-documented. Dealing Carter was all but guaranteed, given his inability to fit in with Orlando's gameplan (or get along with Dwight Howard), and Jason Richardson is absolutely an upgrade, but this trade is not without its long-term risks for the Magic.

First of all, the Magic, who are in championship-or-bust-cost-be-damned mode, take on Gilbert Arenas at $17.7 million this season, $19.3 next season, $20.8 the following year (ETO) and $22.3 in 2013-14. They also take on Turkoglu at $9.8 million this season, $10.6 million next, and $11.4 in the final year.

There is no long term in basketball. You have to play to win now or risk losing Dwight. Otis had to do something as this team was going nowhere fast.
