He shot the ball well in LA too, but again most of that is going back to dependable offensive systems.

The Magic's vegas odds to win the title doubled when Cadwell-Pope was inked. That must mean something!

You're saying KCP is the most impactful player on this team.

That is not what it means. (example: removing Banchero would be more than half lower the odds). What it does say is that the gamblers think that adding Caldwell-Pope to the roster increases the probability Orlando wins the Larry O'Brien Championship Trophy.

KCP was 4th in +/- in 2022-2023, and 6th in 2023-2024. Obviously he benefitted from playing with Jokic and the Nuggets but still..

Before the off-season started, I was hoping the Magic could get Gary Trent or Luke Kennard as a SG; the Magic got the much better Caldwell-Pope.

The more I think about this, the happy I get.

I am starting to fall in love with the Magic's starting five. They are going to be complimentary on offense and defense.

But KCP is not as much of upgrade over Harris as you think. Matter of fact, it's hard to find players who mirror each other so much.

KCP worked well as distanced 5th option on Nuggets team stacked with best player in basketball, elite PG ( in playoffs) , and two very good wings. It's same system Gary Harris used to be 3rd option

Also you should brace yourself to random months where KCP can't hit jumpers and has 8 ppg ,2 rpg, 1 apg on 30 mpg productions. It happends.

And both guy are 30/31. KCP is just way more durable.

I still find Magic offseason as awkward as it gets. Magic now have 3 SGs who do same stuff + Cole who is closest thing to combo guard. No PG in sight.
KCP also won't add any volumen to our shooting. He also won't put any pressure on a rim.

Don't get me wrong, KCP is good player. But not needle mover. Tbh, if i have to bet on Magic winning record, i'm not going over 45.

For like 5353646463346466th time.

if you are bored you can google my posts in past about Gordon. It was almost always about his positional problem with Magic and notion he can be star player, never about his ability to play.

I agree...I'm just trying to get on board with the new kinder, gentler, more positive Pepe...I feel myself slipping into the Dark side that you seem to have escaped. Maybe I need to get a new wife too...if I don't spend less time on here, I probably won't have a choice :o

I get THAT...I went from anti-Tyus to Mr. Tyus. anti-Cole. Trade WCJ to "good enough" WCJ...I don't think I've actually changed positions on guys-but it's Black/White for some people ...even though most of the world is gray.

I’m kinda curious to see what everyone thinks scoring wise KCP will do next season?

About the same as the last few years.

9 to 11 PPG would be my guess.

KCP is not afraid to take shots in the flow of the game. He will be more impactful overall, but it is nice to have continuity at the SG position to interchange them as well.

He’s always been a selective shooter - which has been the complaint about Harris historically. I hope he’s encouraged to (and welcomes the idea) empty the clip and up his shot hunting on this team. His career avg is 11.38 ppg…I’d like to see 15 ppg, without a Jamal Murray or LBJ next to him. Suggs too.

In contrast to pepe saying that Harris and Caldwell-Pope are "similar players", respectfully, they are not. Across the board Caldwell-Pope is more efficient. He also gets to the line a little bit more and is a better FG% and FT% shooter. That all sums up to Caldwell-Pope being 1.2 ppg better than Harris when averaging out for minutes played. Caldwell-Pope did shoot 0.6 more FG attempts per game than Harris, when averaging out for minutes played, and that shooting rate seems certain to drop to Harris-like levels on this roster.

This all averages out to Caldwell-Pope having an expected 9.5 ppg, a quantum upgrade over Harris' 6.9 ppg. That's a 2.6 ppg increase by replacing a single player. WOW!

The bench: Black/Suggs/Harris/Isaac/M-Wagner. That's better than the Pistons starting Five!

Part of the upgrade from Gary would be availability. I remember being frustrated seeing Paolo and Franz step up during our West Coast run last year when half the roster was injured and thinking “we gotta get these guys some reliable role players.”

KCP has played more than 75 games 3 years in a row and is a slightly better version of Gary. That consistent support should pay dividends in the continued development of Paolo and Franz.
