Monk is ok, but I think character issues and doesn’t really fit the archetype of players weham has targetted lately. Undersized decision makers doesn’t seem to be a thing for this management. 6’4” and above two-way players seem to be their M. O. lately.
These are my picks. Conley is perfect for us and what we need from that role in the short term. I like Monk as a reliable scoring punch off the bench if he’s happy to stay a 6th man.
Suggs/Monk
Conley/Black
That’s a quality backcourt that still has opportunities for our young guys.
Mike Conley will be 37 when the season starts next year. Age has caught up with him. he might be a good coach, but his contributing days are pretty much over.
I have to agree about Conley. He would have been great this year...but next might be a year too late. He's got a really good situation in MIN, so, unless he really hates the cold, it would take way too much $$ to get him. I wonder if Conley has another year of high-level starting PG in him. I kind of think we missed by a bit with Ingles in the same way. You can see the contribution, in flashes, but he's just not up to a regular role, IMO.
I LOVE Joe Ingles, the player, the teammate, and the guy in general...but, despite our need for solid vet role models...I think we should get them a couple of years before they fall off the on-court cliff. Brogdon is still a very capable vet with one more year on his deal. That, to me, would have really made sense. But I like the concept...gives me something to spend countless hours researching

Who is the vet, heady, crafty player who is still physically viable enough to play a significant role...right around 27-31, has seen playoff combat, still good enough to command respect from the kids...not just a wise old resource to talk to.
I like Kelly Olynyk, Kyle Anderson, Bobby Portis types...guys that can play a solid rotation role, move the ball, hit shots. Quietly make winning plays...but we really do need a PG.
I want to like Monk, but I'm not sure he's really ever going to be a reliable starter. It'll cost starter money and a starter role to get him from SAC, IMO.
