I’d say with a little more defensive potential. I’d be stoked if he ends up shooting the ball like Duncan Robinson.

Most of my trade proposals lately feature Cam Johnson from PHO...People thought he was drafted too high but he just hits shots all day and he's about to become the next overpaid 3pt specialist...A much better option would be Houstan just becoming OUR Cam Johnson.

I think our most glaring need is a long guy that can hit open shots...we don't really even have room for a "star" SG and, at this point, it would maybe be detrimental to our young guys with big-time potential to take a backseat...But, IMO, Houstan - if he can just bomb open shots, has a real shot to be impactful this year.

IKR. The hope is that between Kelle, PB5, and Wagner someone like Houstan will get open looks. I thought he did a good job getting to whatever open spots the defense gave him in SL and that’s with inferior talent outside of PB

Houstan today isn't reliable shooter. That was issue with him at college as well.
And in SL after having first game super hot, he shot something like 2-19 for 3 for rest of a SL.

NBA "shooter specialists" are borderline maniacs in ability to hit impossible shots from impossible angles. If you have time, find court side view of Duncan Robinson movment without ball to get open look. It's crazy how hard it is to get good looks in nba, if you are defended as shooter.

It's only the moving screen at the end that frees him up.

What I will add to your point, I am always amazed that these movment-shooters like Robinson are doing a cardio workout on the court and can still hit shots with a heart rate probably beating above 100 when the ball is fired off.

+1 for this, haha!

I hope WCJ can take a leap this year by getting away with moving screens like Bam does. ;)

I wish Houstan would’ve gotten the point guard run instead of Hampton. Caleb played on the ball a lot for Canada at the U19s.

Why is this a sticky? The guy had one hot summer league game and then ended up being one of the worst rated players in the entire summer league.

Because he is the newest member on the squad. We could have said the same for Franz. We’re not judging him based on summer league.

Houstan's job this year is to carry luggage and play on the practice squad.

Duncan may get hammered due to his contract, but when I watched him in the playoffs towards the end, he was active on both sides of the court always moving and aggressive. If he played like that all the time and still shot 40% from 3, he would be worth his contract.

Constantly in motion. Looks like Curry or Reddick running around out there.

I am not sure why we hold summer seasons against players, but If a player plays well, it’s “just summer league.” Or sample size.

I am not sure the Magic are ready to draw conclusions after a 4 game sample size. Variation even happens to a lot of players in bigger sample size SGA 42% in 21 va 30% in 22. Vuc 40% to 31%.

Houstan isn’t ready to step into the rotation because he’s a project like most 2nd rounders. He’s a 19 year old kid with nice size and form that needs to learn how to play basketball. If he does he’s a steal with size and length at the wing, the thing that every team covets.

I’m curious how his off-season is going. I cannot find any info on him, but I know in an interview he said he’s not an big social media person. Respect, just want to know his progress.

With Fultz and Harris injured to start the year, is there a legitimate possibility that we could see Houstan get some rotation minutes at the 2?

I think it depends how much we want to win. It will be very telling. If we want to win we have Ross or even Kevon Harris.
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

I think if he shoots lights out from pre-season, he could sneak his way into the rotation. With no Fultz or Harris, we may lean into a better shooting lineup. He has the potential to be an elite shooter. Might as well try and see if he can replace what Harris brought us last season. Even if it's only for the first 10 games or so.

I think we have too many veterans expecting minutes to play Caleb. There is a sense of urgency coming from media day, it would be counterintuitive to play second round rookie above 10+ years veteran like Ross. Even best rookies rarely contribute to winning. Banchero is different breed, he is our core. We cant evaluate our core if we surround them with rookies and other bad players. I expect Hampton will have tough time making the rotation.
