DET is having the breakout season that we should have been enjoying. Very well assembled team around a superstar playmaker...They did it, primarily without Jaden Ivey.
I wonder if there's any realistic path to getting him. I could see DET looking for win-now supporting players to keep the ascension moving and I'm really not sure who we have that fits. It's not inconceivable that Ivey could be marginalized as primarily playing off-ball with Cade (or just backing him up). Beasley has emerged as Cade's perfect spot-running mate, so maybe Ivey is too good, too valuable for the role that's available. Just a thought.
KCP is THE finishing piece on this roster, a solid vet 3&D guy with reliable energy, etc...however, he makes too damn much vs his willingness to hunt shots (Last year it was Gary, but he wasn't getting paid enough to really get upset). AB also hasn't shown enough offense to make DET think he's any more attractive than Ausar and Holland. Duren is great and Beef Stew is great, but maybe they could use a guy like Isaac, but again, his minutes, etc make him a near negative, even at "only" $15m. Maybe Goga? They don't need an okay C to backup two flawed, but superior guys.
So, for those of you rattling off our "trade assets"

don't get your hopes up...any significant move will have to involve serious draft equity and I don't think Weltman has the stomach for that...he'd rather keep drafting TdS-types (good pick, in a vacuum, for the draft position, but...where does he get you?). I really like TdS but if he's our most appealing asset, all things considered, we're looking at a quiet summer...I expect more on the level of Cory Joseph...good pickup, delivered some minutes in a bind, but
More "organic development" in store...
I could see a team like BRK moving on Ivey and betting he's got more in his young tank...DET also has cap space, I believe. Watch them end up with Cam Johnson or even Claxton for even more depth.
