Andrew " The Hammer " Declercq is/was a very big reason I became a Magic fan! It's him all the way against those scrubs.

Sasser was about twice as good as Gaines scoring wise. But when comparing two players with career ~30FG%, this is really tough.
Sasser was also statistically a considerably better defender than Gaines. And a better rebounder by a considerable margin. If Mr. JS had anything like a jumper, he could have carved out a 12th man role. But he sucked. And Gaines was worse.

I remember I bought a "Lindsey's" Basketball magazine and I read the Orlando Magic session about Reece Gaines! 6'6"" Point Guard out of Louisville would help take some pressure off Tracy McGrady

That's the same season we lost 19 straight games and would get the #1 pick in 2004!

I also still have the VCR high school tape of Dwight Howard vs Randolph Morris on ESPN!!

Good times...

Actually posted a few double-doubles including this 26-point gem in a game McGrady didn't play:

Reece Gaines was notorious for being awful in just trying to dribble the ball past halfcourt...in preseason.

Well, in fairness, Reece wasn't really allowed to touch the ball outside of preseason, so he pretty much had to build his reputation there :)

I suppose the argument these days would be that we didn't develop them, and should have inserted them into the starting lineup to give them a chance to improve. Blah.

Watching Steven Hunter go up for open dunks and having the ball slip out of his hands and go like 8 rows into the stands are some the greatest memories of my youth.

Thanks everyone for all your epic replies.

So if you had to choose between Gaines and Sasser, the majority apparently had chosen Sasser.

It was Baron Davis. It was the 2nd game of the season. Gaines checks in and right away Davis sees the deer in the headlights look and just completely harasses Gaines at half court, he just steals the ball away like he was taking the ball away from a child and dunks it. Career over. Baron Davis ended Gaines career in seconds lol. I actually saw a lot of Gaines in college and was happy we drafted him thought he would be a good player but man he had no confidence and could not dribble. He was literally useless.

In that sense then the Sassernator wins this contest. He had that huge night in Boston when Tmac was out. I do remember he got into a car accident that hurt his back, then we was essentially waived him, justifiably so, he sucked.

Both players were part of Doc Rivers "tall PG" experiment that ended in ruins. Clippers should have looked at that before the gave Doc free reign to make whatever player moves he wanted. We passed on guys like Tony Parker, Arenas, Jamal Tinsley, Monte Ellis and so on.

Good stuff!!!!

LMAO. i can easily visualize that routine sequence to perfection. Dude was a heck of a shot blocker tho. That's the ONLY thing he excelled at lol.

Taylor has a career FG% on the north side of 40. SO that's something the other's don't!

No Dedmon is a better player. Hunter great at blocking shots, sucked at everything else. At least once a game he would step out of bounds.

Anthony Avent, Donald Royal, Issac Austin, Brooks Thompson, Anthony "Triple Double" Bowie, Lee Nailon (guy who on a 10 day contract said he wanted to retire as a Magic lol), Britton Johnson (anonymous guy who dunked on rookie Lebron lol, was opening day starter and was waived less than a month later lmao).

I admit I'm surprised that Hunter lasted as long in the league. He plays more like the current Javale McGee, dumb too but not goofy like Javale. I say Foyle was a better player, Foyle is also literally a scholar, a genius.

I think he has to win by default for banging a porn star. I mean, it was only Mary Carey, so there was plenty of room for improvement, but still, she was a freaking porn star.
