Sasser was about twice as good as Gaines scoring wise. But when comparing two players with career ~30FG%, this is really tough.
Sasser was also statistically a considerably better defender than Gaines. And a better rebounder by a considerable margin. If Mr. JS had anything like a jumper, he could have carved out a 12th man role. But he sucked. And Gaines was worse.

Reece Gaines was notorious for being awful in just trying to dribble the ball past halfcourt...in preseason.

Well, in fairness, Reece wasn't really allowed to touch the ball outside of preseason, so he pretty much had to build his reputation there

I suppose the argument these days would be that we didn't develop them, and should have inserted them into the starting lineup to give them a chance to improve. Blah.

So if you had to choose between Gaines and Sasser, the majority apparently had chosen Sasser.

I'm trying to remember who it was that picked his pocket, but I can't come up with it.

It was Baron Davis. It was the 2nd game of the season. Gaines checks in and right away Davis sees the deer in the headlights look and just completely harasses Gaines at half court, he just steals the ball away like he was taking the ball away from a child and dunks it. Career over. Baron Davis ended Gaines career in seconds lol. I actually saw a lot of Gaines in college and was happy we drafted him thought he would be a good player but man he had no confidence and could not dribble. He was literally useless.

In that sense then the Sassernator wins this contest. He had that huge night in Boston when Tmac was out. I do remember he got into a car accident that hurt his back, then we was essentially waived him, justifiably so, he sucked.

Both players were part of Doc Rivers "tall PG" experiment that ended in ruins. Clippers should have looked at that before the gave Doc free reign to make whatever player moves he wanted. We passed on guys like Tony Parker, Arenas, Jamal Tinsley, Monte Ellis and so on.

I admit I'm surprised that Hunter lasted as long in the league. He plays more like the current Javale McGee, dumb too but not goofy like Javale. I say Foyle was a better player, Foyle is also literally a scholar, a genius.
