I think this thread will be full of appeasement. For the next month, I think the Magic try to land a stud to play next to D12. The Magic know the deal they want for D12 isn't out there and can't be made official until August 26. I think until that time comes, we'll see a lot of talk/rumors of the Magic trying to land a big fish. I'm not counting on it, though.

Orlando Magic general manager Rob Hennigan still will not rule out his team beginning training camp Oct. 1 or the regular season Nov. 2 with Dwight Howard on its roster.

"As I've said all along, we're going to just continue to stay true to our process and let the process sort of dictate the opportunities and the scenarios that present themselves," Hennigan told the Orlando Sentinel in a telephone interview Saturday.

"We're going to have to be prepared across the board."

Howard still wants a trade — a point that Howard drove home during a meeting Wednesday in Southern California with Hennigan and Magic assistant general manager Scott Perry. Howard's agent, Dan Fegan, and Howard's manager, Kevin Samples, also attended the meeting, which the Magic requested.

Hennigan would not go into specifics, but he confirmed that he did not ask Howard on Wednesday to reconsider his trade request.

"We wanted to just go out and see Dwight and spend a little time with him and talk through a few things," Hennigan said. "We also wanted to check on his rehabilitation process, so it was more a chance for us to get out and get some face time with him and speak with him in person."

Bringing Howard to training camp would have some risks for the Magic.

Questions about the All-Star's future would loom over everything the team does. Those questions would make it more difficult for the team's first-year coach, Jacque Vaughn, and for Hennigan, a first-year GM, to create the kind of culture and team dynamic they hope to instill.

Hennigan might be using the possibility of Howard starting the season with the team as leverage to either get Howard to expand his list of preferred trade destinations or to get other teams to improve their offers.

I think this is all posturing by Henny. The Magic have to try to regain some leverage that has been lost by those two motor-mouthed idiots...Howard and Fegan. I would be shocked if Howard goes to training camp. I frankly don't think he would. He would say his back isn't ready. He would do something to turn it into a disaster.

From Dwight to Jacque Vaughan, we as fans are kind of getting a little agitated with how slow the process has taken. Though, I can say I'm beginning to become HUGE fan of Hennigan. From the way he handles things, keeps everything under the vest, to how calm and collected he is. Just letting the process dictate itself, rather than making rash decisions based on the pressure from the media, Dwight, Fegan, and even the fans.

I have faith the RIGHT DEAL will come along as long as he continues this strategy. I mean, it was rumored Jim Buss gave Hennigan a tongue lashing because Hennigan changed his stance on what he wanted MOST in return for Dwight. Imo, he's already making a name for himself, other GM's KNOW they can't "dupe" him, the Magic Organization like they have in the past (i.e Weisbrod/Otis).
