Also the last game he actually got good position inside that didn't always end with him getting the shot but someone getting a good look. Taking away some of his iso possesions isn't the end of the world IMO...especially with this roster.
That being said, watching Harden dribble dribble dribble is fine when the end result is a made shot. He has passed up some open looks of catch and hasn't consistantly got all the way to the rim. So his way isn't flawless either.
Both guys need to find ways to impact the offense without having the ball in their hands for half the damn shot clock...Biid more than Harden but still. The offense simply gets stagnant and ends up in ball watching too often.
Right, particularly since it gets him an easier look at the exact shot he ends up taking in his face up game most of the time, and subtracting the obstacle of him being double teamed.
At the end of the day it's important to be capable of playing through both, and I'm hearing a lot of this.... "Well Joel Embiid can get his elbow shot from the pick and pop with Harden"and that's true. But, when they get eliminated the critique is going to be that they didn't get Joel in low post position. So the 4 out 1 in ability is crucial. It provides crucial mismatches, and puts an immediate mismatch on the floor. Joel just has to read it correctly, and he got better at it last year. He's improved the last two games this year... Essentially he can get the ball anywhere on the floor and draw double team. Gotta exploit it and he's capable. A lot of what they got yesterday versus the pacers was out of that offense.
But at the end of the day, it's a lot easier just get into the pick and roll.... It will also improve pacing.
What the trend has been is that they start with the four out one in. Then Harden takes over when Joel goes to the bench early. They also run it in the Joel centric lineup. To close the games, it has been Harden. It's a smart thing to do when it works. You also don't want to run either one of them went to the ground, and I'm sure they planned to rest both guys periodically in the season. But they're seeing a lot more Houston Harden then early Nets version, But I don't think this roster lends itself to that version unless Maxey really takes that step
So I think a lot of what people want to see this was actually happening. The execution is just a work in progress. Even Maxey is getting his shots, he just needs to be efficient again.
