Tightening his handle and getting stronger should help Tre get to the rim more. His nuclear shooting will open up all kinds of driving lanes for himself and his teammates.

I feel so bad for whoever drafts him.
That’s called confidence. You know, something big time STAR players have, unlike limited role players.
Delusion =/= confidence.
I’m totally fine with Harper saying he’s a point guard, even if that means he’s less “confident.”

In today’s game, true primary or secondary scorers need to be able to put the ball on the floor and score at all three levels, including getting to the line and finishing at the rim. Without that, you’re likely going to have problems with your scoring efficiency.
But if Morey does see growth potential in that part of Tre’s game, then by all means, take him.
C’mon man, THJ? Those guys can’t handle or pass the basketball the way Tre can. Not to mention, it’s not just about the shots, but how you get the shots. His movement shooting and footwork is spectacular. This kid might be the best shooting prospect since Steph Curry and I don’t think that’s an exaggeration. I can see passing on that potential for Cooper obviously and to a lesser extent, Harper ( I think it’s possible Tre ends up better). Not for VJ freaking Edgecomb.
always a jump shot away.

Its nothing if you can’t get to the rim and get to the line, TS% is the big picture while we’re being distracted on 3pt%

That’s definitely a possibility, which is why he’s one of my top options, and what we’d essentially be betting on if we draft him.
There’s also a strong chance he ends up more of a mid-post player, an underrated strength of his, which explains his high volume of mid-range attempts. He might ultimately try to mold himself into a shooting guard version of Kevin Durant (he sounds he’s close to him and getting advice from him).
He’s more naturally inclined to take a leap as a mid-range and mid-post scorer, which could not only boost his overall shooting efficiency but also become a foundation for eventually getting to the rim and drawing fouls more consistently.

BPMcels assume VJ Melton will develop an entire offensive game from scratch, yet think Tre won’t be able to leverage his nuclear shooting to get to the rim more.

Yeah its hard to pick between Tre and VJ. EdgeCombe will be good and may have a bigger ceiling than Tre, but i think Tre is an outlier shooter. Not just "pretty good", but really really good, specially his off the dribbleand stepback 3s. So in my mind, he will be an allstar , even if the other parts of his game dont develop. And i think atleast his driving game will be decent, and i believe he has the passing chops to be a lead guard, so its hard to let him slip..

Curry .241 ftr.
Not saying he’s Curry, but if he’s at a .300ftr, with the way he shoots, I think he could still be a star. Besides, is VJ so great getting to the rim or am I missing something?
always a jump shot away.

HC rim frequency
VJ 31.7%
Tre 16.7%
I’m not trying to shoot Tre down, I’m just being realistic. In fact, I’m trying to shift the focus away from overanalyzing his defense and toward what really matters with him, his offensive game.

Another thing about tre, as yesterday i read all his topic on the draft forum. His post game is underrated. He may not be a good driver, but hes really crafty in the post. Lots of moves, he has the potential to be really good there too. He wont just shoot 3s, he will have a nice mid range game too.

Legit 90% of VJ highlights are in transition. Dude has zero half court offensive game besides a decent C&S 3. Yet his boosters hand wave that all away and just assume he’ll develop all of it.
No thanks to Zhaire Edgecombe.

Yeah. He has very good post game. That was the reason for his mid range FGA volume. Also a good PnR game.

Makes sense, given they’re worlds apart as shooters.

Ok. That’s the drama today to keep you guys busy.
I think we should just focus on VJ vs Tre discussions.

I have wondered if Tre played 4 years in a lower division, would he have the hype Steph did coming out? The shot is that good.

I think Tre should’ve been used more as a lead guard, similar to how Ohio State utilized Evan Turner and D’Angelo Russell back in the day. That kind of role would’ve boosted his numbers and better showcased his playmaking ability.
I also believe increased PnR reps would naturally reduce his reliance on mid-post possessions, which could lead to more efficient shot selection and improved assist numbers.
I think i have posted here a youtube video where he looked really good at Link playing lead guard. Sometimes even looking like SGA.

I think you posted that video on Tre´s topic on the draft forum. I didnt watch yet, but i will since you said he had some similiarities with SGA .
