Gives me hope that there'll be a lot of Harden-Embiid PnR flanked by 3 bombers/cutters.

Embiid will need to adapt his game a bit and I hope he commits to doing so, but to your point I think given Harden's scoring threat he will be able to get Embiid easy buckets on dump offs or just tossing one up there for Embiid to catch high and convert with a layup immediately, even though Embiid doesn't have the typical Capella/Howard type PnR oop game.

Embiid was asked about PNR's in a presser not long ago by Hoffman, and Jo's answer was to the effect of he doesn't want to be doing all that jumping to catch lobs off dives so he's doing the short rolls instead. Which is better for his legs, knees, and feet anyway. But maybe they can modify it where Jo can just catch without jumping and lay it in? Or just mix in a dive and alley oop or two simply to keep the defense guessing?

Honestly, if you can just get Jo a clean look from the foul line, that's going in more often than not.

Yeah but have u seen how bad inflation is?

But seriously, i think Harden can play really good even when he’s 37-38.

In 3 years, the guy who shoots a career 36% on extremely high volume from three will be the same as two of the worst shooting point guards in the NBA. Good point.

Harden's game couldn't be more different than Wall and Westbrook's

Harden is a great shooter who has a skill-based game.

Wall and Westbrook are not good shooters, and have athleticism-based games.

Harden is a good bet to have much better longevity than those guys.

Agree with everything you said.

Not even that, by 2025 with the new TV contract in place, the cap could increase sustantially. We are gonna renew Harden by 2023-2024, which means after 2 years is not gonna even be a max contract

Yeah, i doubt Harden contract is gonna look pretty, but after the cap extensión there is no way Harden is even the worst active contract in the league.

Some guy putting over 20 points taking like 300 shots is gonna be able to get a 300 million contract.

Something to watch for: This season, Harden has been really slow getting the ball up the court and getting the team into sets. He absolutely killed our pacing. I'm not sure what kind of offense you guys run but that may be an issue if Harden doesn't adapt, because I doubt you guys want your offensive sets to start with 14 secs or less on the clock.

We're the slower team in he league and believe or not, a lot of times our sets start with less tahn 10 seconds in the clock

Bad final years of contracts are part of the price of business. You just don't want to sign players to deals like that until necessary. Will Harden be worth $60mm when he's 37? Of course not. That's not why the deal was made.

But the talking heads need something to scream about.

If James Harden takes care of his body, he can still be a fringe all star at 36,37.

He already plays like an old man. He should easily age like Chris Paul. He can play the pg position at an elite clip and not be an elite scorer.

I would feel better about his game than Jimmy Butler or Durant or Lillard

It always baffles me all the worries about giving older players (without analyzing their skillset) a huge contract, but when you give a younger player (think 24-27 years old) who is a fake star, a max contract (think Simmons or Harris), people are much less worried about it at the time of giving the contract. Harden can give us at least 2-3 decent years, after that he may suck, so what? Simmons sucked too, Harris is overrated and we are stuck with him, despite his age. He may suck after 2-3 years, but at least he will be good for some years, and we will finally enjoy a great player around Embiid.
With the skillset that Harden has, he will definitely still be a useful player at the very least off the bench in 3 years, unless a bad injury happens and it's career ending. It will not be a Westbrook situation where he really sucks and is a negative.

Am I the only one that feels like this is the Chris Webber trade all over again. We threw all our assets to get an aging superstar that on paper is a great fit, but we are one ankle (or in this case hamstring) of having the whole window for a ring close. Clearly Haliburton and Hiedl were available with the Kings (now Pacers) and Thad and Smith were available with the Spurs ( now Raptors and Celtics). I think sending out Simmons and parts for those pieces would have made more sense. Maybe even throw in Harris.
Now we strengthened the Net, not just with Simmons, but as importantly with Curry. And we lost the best back-up big man we have had for Embiid ever. And we are out draft picks and potentially could be stuck holding the bag for a super-max deal for Harden in summer of 2023.
This trade basically means we HAVE to win this year or next, when the Nets will be the better team, and the Bucks are still dominant. Tough pill to swallow. After 2023, we probably have to blow it all up again.

Any word when he will be joining the team on court? After the all star break?

In what way were "all the assets" traded? It was Ben Simmons, two 30 year old roleplayers, a late pick this year, and a protected pick in 2027 that becomes seconds if we're within the top 8. Maxey and Thybulle were seen as our most prized young assets value wise and Marks got neither. Sky is falling esque comment.

I agree but it would have been nice to get Mills to have more perimeter shooting. I’m okay with the deal all in all

Bruh, Andre Drummond has been a staple of this franchise and was the future.

I would like to see more spacing around Embiid and Harden but oh well, I sure as hell prefer this over years and years of not having any guard that can score on the ball and distribute.

Seems agenda laden that so many want to go to Harden's contract in 2025-26 to rip the deal for Philly.

Return to Philadelphia 76ers
