Teams that are in win-now and with cap space are:
Knicks x2
Nets x2
Clippers x2
Mavs
Sixers x2
Boston
Of these teams the Nets now look to be locked on KD and Kyrie. Knicks hinting they are going to punt on this season and roll it over. Clippers are in a dog fight for Kawhi. Mavs are rumored to be chasing Horford. Boston doesn't have max, but could if it renounces Rozier.
The question is, would Jimmy or Tobias take less than the max? I don't see Jimmy doing that, this is his last pay day. Maybe Tobias would consider it. So if Jimmy wants max money wherever he goes there aren't that many options. Essentially boils down to Philly, Clippers/Raptors (whoever doesn't get Kawhi), Boston or Lakers/Rockets if they can clear more space. RIght now I don't see Houston getting the space they'd need, no one wants CP3 and Goron/Tucker/Capela aren't hot names. Unless something drastically changes between now and July 1, I don't see Lakers coming up with it.
As for Tobias, the Nets were the real threat and they're look more and more unlikely. I don't see him going back to the Clippers given they already tried to low ball him once.
All that being said, it feels like if Elton comes to bat with max deals for both that they should sign here. It also seems like Elton already has an idea of what these guys want to do. He's dropped enough hints that he needs every dollar and that there was a plan to what they did in the draft. Taking him at his word, if there was a plan and part of it is dumping picks and rooks then it feels safe to say he's confident the two want to return and all these rumors seem to be getting stirred up by rivals.
Anyone else feel that way or have their own thoughts on the recent spike in rumors?
Anything can happen and plans change but with what Elton gave up for Tobias, a conversation between the two likely took place on the Sixers chances to resign him if he liked Philly.
Butler who knows, I can’t see them losing both, but one leaving is entirely possible, if not likely.
With Durant out for the year, the title for the first time in years is up for grabs, I wonder if that will change either of their minds?
