What, for Harden?

This report is nonsense. It's someone making up news.

This seemed to be the most ideal feasible trade from the begging. Harden/DeMare/Vuicic or whatever his name will definitely be a playoffs team but not a contender and the Sixers get super athletic

I follow Bulls news and rumors and haven't heard anything to this effect.
In the short term I could see a fully motivated Harden making the Bulls better on-court for the short term. He's a better fit than LaVine with DDR. But Harden's not a long-term proposition and neither is DDR. Both are post-30 stars on expiring contracts. Without getting other assets that would help them rebuild, Considering the risks that now obviously accompany Harden on any team he joins, I don't know why the Bulls would want a potential, one-year improvement that still doesn't put them in title contention.

But DeRozan for Harden makes all the sense in the world for both sides.

As for the drama and tension, it's just business. Ish happens. Professionals can bury the hatchet and move forward.

Why would they block him from being a FA then? What am I missing here?

The idea that Harden will forget the entire offseason and just show up and play hard and not pull shenanigans is unrealistic.
They were willing to let Harden walk. Trading him now for expirings is the same thing. And I have to believe if Morey actually comes to the table realistically, then he can get the Clippers to add a first as well.

it's not unrealistic. Harden knows that if he dogs it again, this time going into free agency, he may cost himself tens or even hundreds of millions of dollars in future contracts. He has all the incentive in the world to perform well.
Like the legend Charlie Munger said... "Show me the incentive, and I'll show you the outcome"
