No doubt. When Brown and Brand were selling the 'bully ball' garbage, all I could think of was "great, 20 years late to the party". There's dumb and dumber, and then there's the Sixers management team between Hinkie and Morey.
That squad was the darling of analytics and almost the consensus favorite of all analysts to make it to the finals. That squad would have made it far if not for the worst shooting backcourt in league history with Josh Richardson and Ben Simmons.
2 years later, teams are playing with two center sized players like Raptors, Celtics and Bucks. Cavs was one of the best defensive team with playing 3 7fts. Ime Udoka incorporated that squad’s blueprint on defense with this celtics squad.
And look at where we are. After the Heat and Raptors series, more have joined my battlecry that we need another big to play with Embiid. Most have mentioned someone like Al Horford.
Issue is we were starting 4 bigs with those two + Simmons + non-shooting Harris.
The issue is those two + Simmons + JOSH RICHARDSON
JJ Redick has been our team’s second best scorer after Embiid in 2017-2019.5 (prior to Jimmy). JJ-Biid DHO has been our best go-to action when we need offense, yes even when we had Jimmy.
If you want to blame Elton, it’s not because of adding Al Horford. Because again, we saw how much we need to have another big to play with Embiid. How defense nowadays needs two bigs who can protect the rim. Even we got decimated by guys like John Collins and Capela in the Hawks series in 2021.
The MISTAKE was buying to the ponzi scheme of Heat with Josh Richardson.
Sixers was trying to play the same scheme Celts did this season with Udoka (who was our asst coach back then).
Switchable guys with 2 bigs.
Josh Rich+Ben+Tobi and Al+Biid
Smart+Tatum+Jaylen and Al+Grant Williams
The problem was how do you run your Embiid centric offense with having Josh Richardson and Ben Simmons at the guard positions?
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.
