We should want Drummond to get stats. This way he opts out.

We do have to tank this season, but I will not tolerate it next season. Jojo have your damn surgery yesterday, I don't know why that has not happened. PG have your damn surgery too. I know ownership is trying to grind out money, but that might be the stupidest move I've ever seen with our current roster.
Just let them try next season, please.

Problem is there likely is no surgery. If you listened to a few pods you'd know that it's pretty hopeless at this point. At some point you have to think about life after basketball. Honestly think its better if he retired medically and the Sixers got their exception.

If so, the premiums would be astronomical on Embiid's risk factor.

Ah yeah not sure about that.MVP1992 wrote:eyeatoma wrote:MVP1992 wrote:Do NBA teams have insurance to recover salary paid out to medically retired players?

Yes, if Embiid can't play next year, and a league doctor verifies that he can't then he would get his money, and his contract would be off the books. But it would be another year for that to happen.
I understand the cap relief.
I'm talking about Sixers ownership claiming a loss by an insurance company to cover some or all of the loss due to paying Embiid out if he medically retires.
If no such insurance policy exists, they'd obviously claim his pay out as a tax deduction, but still, it's a massive loss to ownership considering they'd be also paying replacement players with that cap space.

according to Chandler Parsons of Run It Back, he talked with Embiid, and says there might be a way to avoid major surgery. Embiid is thinking about following NBA legend Kobe Bryant’s footsteps, and getting shots in his knees in Germany.

1. The pods have no idea what they're talking about. I think Ricky Sanchez was using Wade playing through the pain as an example, but they're situations are completely different. Wade had his meniscus completely removed in college. If cartilage is an issue, and it might just be.... Pain management and getting rid of the swelling is possible.

Almost every contract in the NBA is insured, but I imagine it wasn’t easy to get Embiid’s extension insured. My guess is that it is insured, but I’m assuming it wasn’t cheap.
I understand the cap relief.

That said, team still has to spend to the floor, which is basically the cap. Also, the team could theoretically have outside insurance on Jo's contract.
