Ben's lack of outside game requires everyone to adjust their games, that is just facts. Embiid posts up and then Ben's man can cheat off of him...meaning Ben generally has to either cut (which allows the guy to still cheat because Embiid is a **** passer at times) or make sure he isn't near which hurts because your PG should be the one initiating said play. We can't run PNR because again his man can simply play off him...and thats the case even when Ben isn't the ballhandler. His lack of jumper hinders a lot of what we can do in the half court.
Its been that way forever because literally none of our PGs in the process era couldn't shoot and the few who could couldn't dribble lol. The reason why Ish worked as well as he did, wonky jumper and all, was his speed and Noel's leaping ability.
Now that is not to say Embiid doesn't have his issues in this conundrum either. He simply takes too long to make his move at times, which allows people to cheat off , him abandoning his face up jumper also plays a role in this. He also often brings the ball down too low for someone who is 7'2. His lower body strength is piss poor which means he very rarely gets great position on said post ups. Plus his foul baiting doesn't always work which leads to bad possessions.
And then there is Brett. I think many people give him too hard of a time but his devotion to his system kills me. He is running a spursian system w/ the wrong personale and the older version of said system at that. There has to be a better way to get your 7'2 behemoth easy looks. Joel works too hard for his shots and that is why he is already burnt out atm. Our offense is often too predictable. I am an idiot and even I can tell who is going to shoot on certain possessions...so I know the defense is aware.
and yet with all that, it all comes down to our main initiator being basically useless from 13 ft out. He's not even taking those wonky fadeaways any more. If Ben was even a slight threat from 20 ft, it would make life a lot easier. His man wouldn't be able to cheat. So that would allow Embiid's slow post up process a few extra seconds. His **** passing would matter less. Brett's hatred of PNR would have less excuses. Our offense would have an extra release valve. And Embiid wouldn't have to force as often. All he needs to do is follow the damn train, CJ.
and this doesn't mean trade Ben or that he sucks and should go back to Austrailia. It doesn't mean Embiid doesn't need to work on things too...he does. But I am sorry but I am tired of everyone having to change for Ben's sake when he so far hasn't done **** for anyone else's sake...
Agreed - It's not about getting Embiid more touches or better post position. Brett needs to get Embiid some easy looks like Jordan/Capella/Gobert all get --- easy dunks, lobs, etc. The issue is that most of that comes from PnR action which the Sixers don't do.
Some Butler/Embiid PnRs would be a sight for sore eyes...
