Neubeck and Bodner did a prediction episode today since it's the eve of the draft. I'm gonna give it a go and do my best to take my own biases and preferences out. Here goes nothing...
1. We trade #16 and (reluctantly) the 2028 LAC 1st for Brandon Ingram. Morey sees all other options as less realistic and goes with someone he likes (but doesn't love) to give the team a chance at a big 3. Ingram does not waive his trade kicker, so costs $41 mil next season.
2. Morey follows up with another trade into cap space: The 2026 OKC 1st + future 2nd for Dorian Finney-Smith. Morey decides he needs a defensive presence next to Ingram, and DFS is his guy. He costs $15 mil next season, which leaves us with ~$10 mil to sign...
3. Caleb Martin to a 4-year, $48 mil deal! This one comes out of left field, but he's a player Morey has secretly coveted all along. We get a player who is tasked with taking on the tougher perimeter defensive assignment on a nightly basis.
4. We re-sign the fan favorite, Kelly Oubre, with the room exception.
5. We round out the roster with 3 vet min signings: Kyle Lowry, Dario Saric, and Andre Drummond.
6. What about the rest of last year's guys?
- Melton finds a home in Charlotte for the MLE
- Reed becomes a UFA after his contract is terminated. He signs with none other than the Utah Jazz.
- Robert Covington signs a vet min with Boston and averages 5 blocks and 7 steals against us. Plays all 82 games.
- After a long successful summer with France in the Olympics, Nico Batum decides to hang em up
That leaves the following as your 2024-2025 Philadelphia 76ers:
Maxey/Lowry
Martin/Oubre
Ingram/Council
Finney-Smith/Saric
Embiid/Drummond
