Who said it is meaningless? Winner goes straight to the CL groups. That means 25-30 million euro income. Which is probably way more than your meaningless club have ever seen in their bank account.

I'm sure my meaningless club has more money on their bank account than your broke a** club.

When your target is between 7-10th place for your own league, you don't spend money. But if you are a winner team like Galatasaray who aims to do well in Champions League making top 16 or quarter finals, you spend money.

I am sure your Mainzer 05 has more cash than Barcelona and Real Madrid as well since they are in so much debt but unfortunately this doesn't prove anything :(

I am used to winning thanks to Galatasaray. We win pretty often.

in that 2 team league?

I don't think they've won as rcently as Leicester though.

That's a very bad sign

I'm not sure about the exact numbers but Gala seems to have a double digit mil. € transfer plus this season. Also bought players for less than Mainz 05 did.
Not sure how you can call this spending money to make top 16 in UCL.

Now you are nearing the inevitable point that Gala is financially broken.

No. A lot of teams got punished by uefa fair play. You just have to be more careful. That's all.

I hope we can see each other at euro 16. We'll destroy this team.

Wait summer season is long enough :)

Psg was punished by uefa for ffp, i hope you are not suggesting the same about them because they spend mainz's yearly budget on one player's weekly salary

It was an interesting game and I think it'll just confuse Woy more.

I don't think he knows who his first 11 are nor even what formation we're going to play.

As for the match:

Firstly we have to remember it was Australia!

Forster: worrying, there shouldn't be any reason why Hart can't play every minute of the Euros but on this evidence he'll need to. I preferred Butland as our no.1 but it's clear we don't have a reliable no.2 now he's out.

Full backs: Both performed well. I'm happy with all 4 of our fullbacks and won't be too worried who we play

Centre backs: Woy only has 3 in the squad which is clearly a problem. Stones played well yesterday, possibly motm, I probably have him and Smalling as the 2 starters but Cahill can fit in. We're weak in central defence and a suspension or injury is going to cause problems. Dier didn't do his cause any good yesterday.

Midfield - is it a flat 3 or a diamond 4? I don't think Woy has any idea, nor who he'll play. I don't think a front 3 has worked for us so I'd choose a 4:4:2. If it's a diamond I don't see Wilshere in there. He hasn't looked good in these 2 games - defensively he's looked weak. Rooney actually looked good yesterday after a poor year but if he's in he has to take the forward point of the diamond - he's not better than Vardy or Kane. My problem here is that I would play Alli there. For me he could be the star of our tournament, Alli has great skill abd energy (he could be the villain as well as the star with his bad temper). I'd play Dier at the base and I'd play Drinkwater on the left. He'd better in a flat midfield but he's too good to leave out. I'd play Milner on the right simply because he fits with the other 3 as a midfielder who can push and play high tempo defence and attack. I think Milner is nothing special but he works hard.

Attack: No Rashford for me. He scored naturally but after that he should have bagged a hat-trick the aussie defence was slow and poor. Vardy and Kane would have torn them apart. It has to be Vardy and Kane in a 2 pronged attack. If Woy goes to a three he'll go to Kane, Rooney and then Sterling (who has been a disaster) or Rashford. Leaving Vardy out will be a terrible mistake.

What are your thoughts?

Wilshere should be nowhere near the XI when the real games start.

Milner should definitely start for his workrate and leadership, among other things. He's our best set piece taker, and I'd much rather have him taking them than Kane, who I think would be better off in the box awaiting delivery. I agree that Rooney has looked surprisingly decent of late, he was also excellent in the FA Cup final in a deeper midfield role, so maybe Roy will find a place for him there? And yeah our CB situation is a disaster, the top teams will carve us up.

I'm fine with Rashford as a backup striker. Would rather it be Defoe, but Rashford at least offers some energy and a slightly different stylistic approach to Kane and Vardy.

As for Wilshere I don't think he offers much of anything but Roy trusts him for some reason so I'm coming to terms with it.
