It was an interesting game and I think it'll just confuse Woy more.
I don't think he knows who his first 11 are nor even what formation we're going to play.
As for the match:
Firstly we have to remember it was Australia!
Forster: worrying, there shouldn't be any reason why Hart can't play every minute of the Euros but on this evidence he'll need to. I preferred Butland as our no.1 but it's clear we don't have a reliable no.2 now he's out.
Full backs: Both performed well. I'm happy with all 4 of our fullbacks and won't be too worried who we play
Centre backs: Woy only has 3 in the squad which is clearly a problem. Stones played well yesterday, possibly motm, I probably have him and Smalling as the 2 starters but Cahill can fit in. We're weak in central defence and a suspension or injury is going to cause problems. Dier didn't do his cause any good yesterday.
Midfield - is it a flat 3 or a diamond 4? I don't think Woy has any idea, nor who he'll play. I don't think a front 3 has worked for us so I'd choose a 4:4:2. If it's a diamond I don't see Wilshere in there. He hasn't looked good in these 2 games - defensively he's looked weak. Rooney actually looked good yesterday after a poor year but if he's in he has to take the forward point of the diamond - he's not better than Vardy or Kane. My problem here is that I would play Alli there. For me he could be the star of our tournament, Alli has great skill abd energy (he could be the villain as well as the star with his bad temper). I'd play Dier at the base and I'd play Drinkwater on the left. He'd better in a flat midfield but he's too good to leave out. I'd play Milner on the right simply because he fits with the other 3 as a midfielder who can push and play high tempo defence and attack. I think Milner is nothing special but he works hard.
Attack: No Rashford for me. He scored naturally but after that he should have bagged a hat-trick the aussie defence was slow and poor. Vardy and Kane would have torn them apart. It has to be Vardy and Kane in a 2 pronged attack. If Woy goes to a three he'll go to Kane, Rooney and then Sterling (who has been a disaster) or Rashford. Leaving Vardy out will be a terrible mistake.
What are your thoughts?
