Just because Bayern are having a golden period doesnt mean that the whole league is better.
Would love to discuss this over a chat or something. It's shocking how much people in Germany look down on the 00s quality of Bundesliga.
How can a league have more depth and quality during a period when nobody, rightfully, thought anything of it?
Back in that day we had loads of cheap eastern european guys in the league and no real homegrown talent, which showed during the european championships and had the german FA re-think their youth developement.
So no, the league being more balanced doesn't mean more depth or great teams, it just meant that the top teams weren't all that great and therefore others were able to keep up.
I mean, that's like saying the league was better five years ago because someone other than Bayern won it, when, in reality, the only reason of that was Bayern not fully investing their money like they do today.
Though, I do get it given that back then your team was somewhat decent and those memories are just nice for a HSV fan.
The level of play was terrible in the mid 2000's. And even the early 2000s were terrible as well.
Just remember Energie Cottbus who basically didn't have a German player on their entire roster.
