I think Adler is pretty much done regarding the national team. After his injuries, i think he has never been the same again. It's not like he's lighting it up at Hamburg.
After the U21 tournament, a couple of guys will move up and at least ter Stegen or Leno will take Weidenfeller's spot. Although Zieler definitely is a quality keeper, I don't think he should be on the team in favor of anyone of them but Jogi seems to like him.
Some additional thoughts:
- In my opinion, there is no other choice but to play 3 Central Defenders in the back as we truly lack
any quality fullback since Lahm's departure
- The game against the US is in Cologne, so no surprise that Poldi is on the team and I bet he will see plenty of playing time. But outside of being a funny guy, there is no reason for him being part of the team. Personally, I have problems with him becoming Lothar's successor as the player with the most caps for the German team. He only needs 27 more caps which is not that much taking into account that Jogi still is in love with him and that there are plenty of caps played in these days. Seriously, what should I tell young people in 10-15 years if they ask me about Poldi, the player with the most caps played? Someone who once was a big talent when there weren't quality talents around but then regressed so hard that he couldn't make it into any squad outside of Cologne or the national team? I enjoy remembering young Poldi scoring goals in bunches, especially quality lobs over the goalkeeper. But today, he seems to have forgotten all of his skills and is now basically a player who can run and - in every yet unappropriate situation - shoot the ball as hard as he can with his left foot. Depressing development and even more depressing that he still is on the team
- Although it might be a bit early for him to be a part of the team, I have to say that I like Rüdiger. I think he has all the tools to become a strong
Central Defender and eventually will be a part of the team for the next years. A move to Leverkusen or Wolfsburg was hinted over the last few days and I think it would be a great move for his further development.
