Well, Jogi loves himself those regional guys of Hoffenheim, Freiburg and Stuttgart and that's why Rüdiger and Rudy are part of his plan.
The funniest thing about that is that everyone in Stuttgart knows that Rüdiger's a CB and that no Hoffenheim fan(yes, all three of them) wants to see Rudy at RB anymore.

I think the last five occasions on which i watched him closely were the two games against Real Madrid, throughout the World Cup, against City, and against Wolfsburg. It's hard for me to agree based on those experiences. CL semis should provide a good look.

There's not much a CB can do if the system collectively fails. In Bayerns system any CB in the world will look like a fool if the midfielders dont take care of the ball.

He did well in the world cup imho. Put him in a more defensive minded system and he looks much better. Benatia looked awesome last year for Roma but not so great for Bayern so far.

The squad for the games against the USA and that european championship qualifier at Gibraltar have been named.

Goal: Roman Weidenfeller(Dortmund), Robert Zieler(Hannover)

Defense: Jerome Boateng(Bayern), Erik Durm, Mats Hummels(Dortmund), Shkodran Mustafi(Valencia), Jonas Hector(Cologne), Antonio Rüdiger(Stuttgart), Sebastian Rudy(Hoffenheim)

Midfield: Bastian Schweinsteiger, Mario Götze(Bayern), Christoph Kramer, Patrick Herrmann(Gladbach), Karim Bellarabi(Leverkusen), Sami Khedira(Real Madrid), Mesut Özil(Arsenal), Ilkay Gündogan(Dortmund)

Strikers: Lukas Podolski(Inter), Andre Schürrle(Wolfsburg), Max Kruse(Gladbach)

So no matter what, Poldi will always be part of Löw's squad, while he still has either a central mid(Rudy) or a center back(Rüdiger) as his first choice RB with Tony Jantschke enjoying his holidays...

Well, for those goalkeepers it's hopefully a nice way to waive goodbye with ter Stegen and Leno playing under 21 european championships this summer while being more then ready for the NT.

Those others will most likely stay regulars, given that Löw just loves his cheerleader Poldi and with him somehow believing that Rüdiger and Rudy are real options at right back.

But we'll probably win the Euros anyway, despite Jogi's best efforts...

I actually agree with this, but for Weidenfeller this is goodbye match.

I think Adler is pretty much done regarding the national team. After his injuries, i think he has never been the same again. It's not like he's lighting it up at Hamburg.

After the U21 tournament, a couple of guys will move up and at least ter Stegen or Leno will take Weidenfeller's spot. Although Zieler definitely is a quality keeper, I don't think he should be on the team in favor of anyone of them but Jogi seems to like him.

Some additional thoughts:

- In my opinion, there is no other choice but to play 3 Central Defenders in the back as we truly lack any quality fullback since Lahm's departure

- The game against the US is in Cologne, so no surprise that Poldi is on the team and I bet he will see plenty of playing time. But outside of being a funny guy, there is no reason for him being part of the team. Personally, I have problems with him becoming Lothar's successor as the player with the most caps for the German team. He only needs 27 more caps which is not that much taking into account that Jogi still is in love with him and that there are plenty of caps played in these days. Seriously, what should I tell young people in 10-15 years if they ask me about Poldi, the player with the most caps played? Someone who once was a big talent when there weren't quality talents around but then regressed so hard that he couldn't make it into any squad outside of Cologne or the national team? I enjoy remembering young Poldi scoring goals in bunches, especially quality lobs over the goalkeeper. But today, he seems to have forgotten all of his skills and is now basically a player who can run and - in every yet unappropriate situation - shoot the ball as hard as he can with his left foot. Depressing development and even more depressing that he still is on the team :noway:

- Although it might be a bit early for him to be a part of the team, I have to say that I like Rüdiger. I think he has all the tools to become a strong Central Defender and eventually will be a part of the team for the next years. A move to Leverkusen or Wolfsburg was hinted over the last few days and I think it would be a great move for his further development.

Podolski has been a great player for Germany.

He sucked the last 2 tournaments, but he was Germany's best player in 2006, great in 2008 and decent in 2010(scored that goal against England)

Podolski came up during a time where German football was dead(2003-06), that's why they he was so hyped.

That's what I wrote. He was a great talent at a time where Germany didn't have any exciting talents and it was the main reason why he made the leap into the squad so early and has been a vital part for many years.

But everyone has to acknowledge that he didn't develop as everyone had hoped for and the reality is, he simply isn't one of the best 23 players in the country anymore and doesn't deserve a spot on the team only for his merits and contributions to the team spirit.

Jantschke is an excellent FB and has been for a few seasons now. Durm and Jung were very good FBs even though both had unspectacular years. And there's kids like Schulz, Dudziak and Itter who will play FB for us in time. The problem is Jogi doesn't call any of those kids unless they're playing for Bayern, Stuttgart, Hoppenheim or one of his other favorites. If we rolled with Jantschke, Durm and Jung as our FBs we'd be set at that position by the euros.

Man, watching so many HSV games has seriously warped your perception of playing great.

Hm I think they are decent players but I wouldn't count on them while competing for international titles. On this level, they lack some quality to show up against top class wingers. I agree that they would be better solutions than playing Sebastian Rudy out of position though.

As far as I know, Juve likes to play counter attacking football and I think Khedira fits in nicely.
Great box-to-box player. He has stamina, will and strength.

But being honest with you, I'm not a fan. I prefer players in midfield who have the technical ability and patience to find solutions even under pressure. That's an area where he doesn't excel at. Furthermore, his decision making isn't that good I would say.
He wouldn't be a part of my preferred lineup for the German team and I'm happy that Bayern didn't pick him up.

On the other hand, coaches like Löw and Mourinho rate him highly too and I think it's fair to say that their knowledge exceeds mine.
He was superb against Brazil though, have to admit that.

Durm has already successfully played against top talent in the CL and Jantschke has shut down Robbery in the league. They still need some growing to do, but if Jogi had the balls to just give them the shots and let them settle in we'd be set.

magik9113 wrote:So how good is Khedira in the eyes of Germans everywhere

Depends on how much of Sami is left. Before the injuries got to him he was an excellent box to box 8 who excelled at following the ball to ensure that whoever was in possession always had an easy outlet who was brilliant with quick and tight 1-2s. He's not a 6 and though he can hit some nice crossfield balls I don't think he'll mature into one if his legs and stamina are gone.

For what it's worth I think Kramer is an even better and more skilled version of Khedira, aka why our NT needs him.
