The champion's league ought to go back to being a knockout tournament between league champions. It won't because greedy people run the teams and the sport. It's amazing that Spurs have been a regular in the champion's league when they haven't won a title since 1961.

Why is that 'amazing'? They qualify for CL, they play in CL.

I'm not familiar with the old format, but only admitting the victors of each league sounds quite lame to me. It also discourages the great end of season battles we see for Europe spots (at least in EPL). It sounds much more greedy to only admit the league champion (usually a hugely wealthy club) then shower them with more money rather than spreading it across 32 (or the upcoming 36) entrants in a single competition.

It's called the "Champion's League" and yet some teams haven't been champions for over 50 years that why it's amazing. We used to have a cup for the league winners and a cup for the cup winners but that was before money started to take over everyone's minds. It wasn't about wealth it was about the title of being the best in Europe.

I understand the move towards money creation with the CL structure but it's not a champion's league it's a European league.

The game passed Mourinho by a long long time ago, and his insufferable antics make it really hard to have any sympathy for the man.

Good riddance, I am glad his style of football is something that we have to put up with less and less these days.

Getting billionaires in for football clubs is all fine and good but if they have no respect for the history of the club or the sport then they shouldn't be allowed in.

Mainly a money grab but UEFA revenues from CL and Europa League flow back, at least some of it, to national associations and they're able to fund things like youth programs and such.

I'd just like to make it clear that in all my talk about greed and punishment I'm not referring to the fans (most fans) of these 6 English clubs. I'm talking about their present owners. I have the utmost respect for the fans of these clubs and especially those who post week in and week out on this forum.

Mourinho's biggest failing was dropping guys like Bale after one bad performance. He's clearly a class above the rest of this team when Kane isn't playing.

Havent seen a lot Tottenham lately but based on this past few minutes it seems Tottenham‘s biggest failure is too much dribbling instead of actually playing together as a unit.

On a tactical level yes, there's no real outlet or cohesion in the way that they play. No quality ball player in midfield. This rot started at the end of Poch's tenure, when it became clear that some players weren't up to standard, and the club never replaced the likes of Eriksen in the transfer market. Lo Celso and Ndombele are deeper box-to-box midfielders in a 433 like this, not hole players or number 10s.

Basically, Kane has to drop deep like a false 9 to produce any quality in the final third.
